  • Germany, Hessen, Muschenheim 1336781 and 1336782. According to this notice "digitization of remaining microfilms is expected to be completed by 2020". It's Dec. 2021 and the films I need for research are still in the microfilm status. I find no link where I can request these films be scanned and available online. The kirchenbuchduplikate records for Muschenheim have been digitized and are available online. But the duplicate records begin in 1808 and I need the records beginning 1640. Thanks, Bonnie

The post-1808 duplicate records (both Catholic and Lutheran) are owned by the civil/government archive in Hessen. Because the records have a different owner, there are different rules.

My suggestion is to contact the Evangelische Kirche in Hessen und Nassau (EKHN) about this. You could ask 2 things. First, whether there are plans for the records to be digitized on Archion.de Secondly, if they do NOT plan to digitize the records at Archion.de, ask whether they would consider letting FamilySearch publish the digitized films.

    Welcome to the "Community,FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    FYI

Those FHL Films, numbers 1336781 & 1336782, HAVE already been Digitised; as, they have a DGS Number.

    Whereas ...

In the 'FamilySearch' Catalogue, the Format of those Films, is a Film Reel; where, when 'Hovered Over', the 'Message" of This item is available on microfilm at this family history center, is displayed; where, the actual applicable Family History Centre being, that of the Family History Library (FHL), in "Temple Square", in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

    As such ...

Can I humbly suggest availing yourself of the FREE "Look-Up" Service, provided by the Family History Library (FHL), in "Temple Square", in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Here are a couple of Articles, with links to, that FREE "Look-Up" Service

Thanks for the comments and the information that the films have been digitized.

But the free lookup service won't work in my case because I'll need to scroll through much of the film.

Is there a way I can request the films be made digitally available?

    thanks, Bonnie

Still try, that FREE Look-Up Service ...

As, they may have an option or two; or, a suggestion, that may work to your advantage ...

    Give it a go ...

    You never know ...

I really hope, that you have some success.

ps: They may even refer you, to the FREE Consultation Service, through the Family History Library (FHL)

All @Brett . has said, the films have been digitized already. However the digitized films cannot be published, because the record custodian/owner has not given consent.

These records should be available at Archion.de This is a subscription website, and obviously they do not want people using FamilySearch to access the records and bypass the fees.

I personally also contacted the Evangelical Church in Hessen and the CEO of FamilySearch in my country about this back in 2018 and 2019, and it was confirmed that the record owners have not consented to any of their records being published in a digital form under any circumstances. I was told FS would try to negotiate with them to gain rights to publish the digital records. That was nearly 3 years ago, so I assume either negotiations failed, or FS has not yet started negotiations.

As I said previously the kirchenbuchduplikate records for Muschenheim have been digitized and are available online, not locked. My problem is I need to scan the records before 1808 timeframe.

The Muschenheim records are NOT available at archion.de.

It appears I'll have to try the "free lookup service" as suggested.

    thanks, Bonnie
