I am researching a family, mine, that has so many relatives and similar names its hard to file them. Is there a Spreadsheet of sorts I can put everything in and sort out later?
I am not sure if a spreadsheet is available, but you can look for ways to keep what you want in the Solutions Gallery.
You can find third-party products, services, and websites in the FamilySearch Solutions Gallery. These programs offer a wider variety of functionality. Some offer enhanced printing capabilities. Others provide ways to analyze Family Tree data or engage your family members with their history.
To find it, go to the bottom of any screen and click on the Solutions Gallery link at the bottom left.
I agree with @bathompson . I think that a family tree program - there are quite a few available, some free (at least for a basic version) - will serve you far better than a spreadsheet. It will allow you to see relationships between individuals at the click of a button or two. You can view your tree as a list of names or in a tree format. There are many other functions available relevant to family trees. You might be able to replicate this in a spreadsheet but it will be a lot of hard work and you will be "reinventing the wheel".
Hello - can i ask how many persons you have in your tree - it may depend on the size for the direction you may take to record the information.
I have certainly used spreadsheets in limited circumstances similar to those you describe. Usually it is nothing more complicated that a simple list with names, dates of birth and christening, places, parents etc. This allows me to sort by parents or birth/christening dates. Note that excel does not handle dates prior to 1900. One way round this is to use a formula called xdate (look it up on google).
Thankyou all for your support. Its one of those popular names I am trying to sort out, about 50 in all. The name WEST is very common, and their second names are all similar ( came from large families) Some born and christened a year apart, so a spread sheet might work or it could leave me in a mess. I will check out the link and see what's on offer, sort of want a large white board wall chart, 10 foot square would do.
Kind regards to you all from myself in Western Australia.
