Data missing from my family tree

When returning to my family tree after a few months absence I noticed that a large amount of data was missing from the maternal side of my family tree. Is there any way that this can be retrieved and also how has it disappeared in the first place??

    Usually when this occurs, it means that someone goofed up a merge and accidentally broke family connections. Rarely it means someone found a major error in previous research and corrected a family line. Sometimes it means someone has confused two people - a relative of yours and a relative of his or hers and "kidnapped" yours.

    To find out what happened, start at yourself and follow your maternal lines backwards until you come to where the data vanished. Then at the last person, look at the Change Log. There you will be able to find out what happened. Generally just a couple of corrections will restore everything that was lost.

    If you provide more detail about what is missing, someone can probably provide more specific suggestions on how to fix things.

    I have tried correcting the problem but when I try to restore the restoration fails. Must admit it is a bit disheartening to see all my research disappear. I think I will start again on a subscription website!

    Restoring sometime fails if a deleted relationship prevents it. But there are ways around that. If you would like suggestions on how to proceed, post an ID of some of the people involved and I'm sure you'll get some replies with how to proceed.

    @MichaelTodd5

    We are sorry for your frustration with the changes made to your Tree, but understand it . We do not like to lose users. You might be interested in a desktop genealogical program that you can control. There are several found in the Solutions Gallery, under "Family Tree Management". Some are free to try out, and you can later purchase the full program. To find the Solutions Gallery, scroll down to the bottom of most pages, and click that title.

    You might also give us more details, so we can try helping you restore your missing information.

    We would like to assist you in this challenge.
