My name is Valerie H. Tyler. My husband is John Benjamin Tyler. Martha Ann Smith is his

great-great grandmother. I noticed that a picture of her headstone is not included on her memory page. There is a link to Find A Grave with the photo in her sources. Can someone with the authority attach the photo or allow me to do so?

The link to the site with the photo is:

Thank you for your help,

Valerie Tyler

Unless you took the photo of the grave marker, you should ask permission from the photographer before using it elsewhere.

Find a Grave/Ancestry works closely with FamilySearch, but they are two separate companies. Even if a source is attached to FamilySearch from Find a Grave, it doesn't give permission for the photo from Find a Grave to be used in FamilySearch or any other publication. Please be aware that any photo or document that is added to FamilySearch may be protected under copyright laws.

Many materials used in family history research are protected by copyright laws. Unless you created an item, it is best to assume that it is protected by copyright. Verify that you have the legal rights to make copies or upload the information before you use the material.

The fact that a publication is out of print does not nullify its copyright. Do not duplicate, distribute, perform, display, or making derivatives of it without permission.

    • If you are at the Family History Library or family history center, you may make copies as permitted by local copyright law.
    • As you use FamilySearch, review our Content Submission Agreement before you upload photos, stories, source documents, and other materials.

    Best Wishes,

Thanks for the information. I will take a photo of her headstone personally. At that time I will contact you again to get help attaching the photo.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

I have some photos of Martha Ann Smith's headstone in Provo, Utah. My husband is her great, great grandson. Can you help me attach them to her Family Search memories?

Sorry Shannon, I don't understand what that means. Does it mean that I can attach the photos?

    Thanks for your time,

    Valerie
