Thanking Contributors for What ??
hello FS team,
-- this new feature of asking you to thank people for contributing to your tree is totally perplexing. 🤔
-- firstly, i never received any email notification that someone had altered info or added a person to my tree so I wouldn't know even know WHERE to look to verify if I agree.
-- secondly, before someone alters your own tree, surely there ought to be a facility whereby they notify you first of their intention to do so, & you then have an opportunity to be informed of what this change will be & give you the chance to contact them & either agree or disagree with this info change.
-- thirdly, without my checking every person in my tree & trying to remember what info I wrote HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHAT THESE PEOPLE CONTRIBUTED to MY TREE so that I can check the info & agree with it ?????

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
FYI
Please be aware that ...
The "Campaign", by 'FamilySearch', to provide "Thanks", OTHER Users/Patrons, who have "Contributed", to those in one's "Ancestral" Lines, is NOT new; and, has been around, for a number of years; and, gets 'resurrected', every so often.
Here is a direct link (ie. URL) to the particular "Campaign":
https://www.familysearch.org/campaign/hc-1
And ...
FIRSTLY ...
You generally DO NOT receive, "E-mails"; or, even, 'Messages'; and/or, "Notifications", within 'FamilySearch' itself, if another User/Patron, makes ANY "Change(s)", to those ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines; UNLESS, of course, the other Users/Patrons chooses to do so.
Other Users/Patrons, are NOT required, to advise you, when they make, ANY "Change(s)", to those ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines.
Of course, it is always nice if they do; and, certainly promotes "Collaboration"; but, such is NOT a requirement.
Plus, 'FamilySearch' itself DOES NOT advise/notify one DIRECTLY, if Other Other Users/Patrons make, ANY "Change(s)", to those ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in one's "Ancestral" Lines.
But ...
That Said ...
'FamilySearch', DOES, advise/notify one, of "Changes", to those that one "Watches" ('Oops', sorry, 'old school', "Follows") - as, one can "Follow", a MAXIMUM of x4000 individuals/person, at any given point in time.
There is BOTH:
(1) a 'Weekly' "Notification"; and,
(2) a 'Real Time', almost 'Live'; as, they happen, feature/facility/function that one can check, if one so desires.
....[ Personally, I check the list, of "Changes", to those that I "Follow", on a "Daily" Basis, to keep onto of things ]
SECONDLY ...
Further to the aforementioned ...
You DO NOT have your OWN "Tree", in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' ...
Bear with me ...
Here an old 'standby' of mine, that I have previously proffered on occasion ...
------------------
Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic 'nature' and 'premise' of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.
Please let me explain ...
We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).
We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.
We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
And, most importantly ...
We DO NOT even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, Our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors/Family/Relatives in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
------------------
As such ...
IF, you DO NOT agree with, ANY particular "Change(s)", to those ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines, made by Other Users/Patrons; THEN, you can simply make your own subsequent changes, to that which you DO NOT agree with.
Of course, you have the opportunity, to 'Message', the Other Users/Patrons, in the spirit of "Collaboration", if you so desire; but, that said, such is not a requirement.
THIRDLY ...
You are correct ...
UNLESS, you are either ...
(1) "Following" [up to a MAXIMUN of x4000], certain, ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines;
OR,
(2) TOTALLY aware of, ALL of, the ("Deceased") individuals/persons, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', in your "Ancestral" Lines,
you will not be easily able, to find out, what work, the Other Users/Patrons, have contributed.
FINALLY ...
In regard to the particular "Campaign", of "Thanking a Contributor" ...
'FamilySearch', is merely providing, us an avenue (ie. a way, a service), to give "Thanks", to those OTHER Users/Patrons, who have "Contributed", to those in OUR "Ancestral" Lines.
IF, one DOES NOT want to avail themselves of such; THEN, one is certainly NOT required to do so.
.
I know that this most probably does not help/assist; but, I hope that this provides you with some additional, insight; and, perspective.
Brett
ps: My Wife and I, knew most of the Other Users/Patrons, who had contributed, to our various "Ancestral" Lines; but, there was the odd one or two that we did not recognise.

Carola Hume, do you need to verify all changes by others? I don't even try. I have enough to do, fixing issues I already know about, without spending time checking other contributors' work. Most of their work is fine, and if it isn't, eventually it will get sorted out.

Hello @Carola Hume,
As Brett stated above, you can follow people in Family Tree and see when another user changes the information.
- You follow up to 4,000 people in Family Tree.
- At any time, you can display a list of the people you are following. The list identifies all changes have been made to those people during the last 60 days.
- You receive a weekly FamilySearch notification to alert you to these changes.
- After you follow an ancestor, you can go to your following list and add labels to your ancestors.
This article from the Help Center gives you the steps to begin following an individual on your computer as well as a mobile device.
Best Wishes!

this disturbed me as well. I just went to my tree ( it is small) and someone did add some info to it and it is wrong. I now am considering attempting to delete the tree and account. No one let me know to check if this was accurate or something to look into. that is a policy that needs to change. No one should add or delete anyone to a tree without a notification of an update. very disappointed in this "service" if that what this is.

@MaryBrinovec you can delete your account but not the tree. The tree here is everyone's tree.
Would you like help resolving what you think is now incorrect?

no i deleted it. I just feel it is making this into work rather than fun like it was. I am thinking of not using family search anymore. this is telling me i really have not control of this tree to keep it accurate. sigh

Rather than edit war with other contributors, you could collaborate to figure out why you disagree. Usually there is a mistake, or a whole series of mistakes. Once that is sorted out, generally everyone is happy and that part of the tree becomes stable. You can then have very high confidence in your tree. Doesn't that sound worth some effort?

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
The basic 'nature' and 'premise' of the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'; being, a SINGLE "One" World "Tree", built on a "Open Edit" Platform; hence, why any "Registered" User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person, in the "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', is throughout the website.
The REAL Problem/Issue is twofold:
(1) Such, basic 'nature' and 'premise', could certainly be made clearer; and, upfront (ie. 'In Your Face');
And ...
(2) MOST, Users/Patrons, DO NOT, even bother, to "Read", all the 'Fine Print' ...
[ We ALL, tend to 'Skip' that ... ]
And, of course ... 'how hard can it be' ... its FREE ...
Unfortunately
The "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch', is NOT for ALL.
I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

You thank them for their contributions. I guess I'm lucky. 99% percent of the changes I hear about in notifications of the people I'm following are source that have been added and memories, such as photos and documents that I have never seen before. For example, the wife of my great-granduncle has 112 memories: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/memories/KWCH-JMX added by others. It's great that they have done much to add to "my family tree."
The other 1% of changes are generally minor issues that are very easily fixed.

Those are great photos! Unfortunately you can’t really tell how many people have enjoyed the photos in FamilySearch like you can in Ancestry. I have uploaded photos of family reunions that took place in the 1920s and 1930s, both here and in Ancestry. But in Ancestry when I occasionally pull up one of these photos you can see how many people have added it to their trees. Some photos have been copied up to 40 times. It is really nice that these sleepy pics from years gone by are being loved.

Again, let me say I feel fortunate that I have a lot of relatives doing a lot of good work. I really wish everyone could say that. Here is an example of why we should be thanking people working with our family. On a recent list of changes to people I am following, it showed that fifty one people had a total of 110 changes made to them. This breaks down to:
New Memories: 36
New Sources: 36
Information added to Other section: 22
Relationship "Edits:" 8 (these arise from adding marriage sources or doing a merge for a spouse or child. Two of these incorrectly add a spurious wife and two children to one of my family so I will fix that.)
Vitals Edits: 6 (All were very minor. Three of them on the same person where the user had changed United States to USA. Took me about 20 seconds to change it back and leave a note.)
Merges: 1 (which was correctly done)
This type of work is what we can thank people for.
