How do I add the Apostrophe?

I am reviewing the Missouri marriage records. I've encountered 2 instances of an Irish name with apostrophe. I've been unable to physically key it in and have had to submit the group using as space (as typed) I. E. ---- O Toole - O Brien - Etc.

What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Maybe you should try exiting the program and your browser and reopen everything. I downloaded an indexing batch and a review batch and was able to enter apostrophes in both.

We do not need to index the apostrophes. The computer just ignores them anyway. Same thing as with spaces. The computer ignores them both. If you feel uncomfortable go ahead if the fields will take them. No harm done.

    @genthusiast

    Just in passing ...

    FYI

Neither, the SINGLE ( ' ); and/or, the DOUBLE ( " ), Apostrophe/Quotation Mark, are invalid characters in the "Name" Field, in "Family Tree" Part, of 'FamilySearch'.

    image.png

As you can 'see', they are NOT included, in the list of characters, that are NOT allowed, in the "Name" Field.

    But ...

    That Said ...

It appears, that there may be a problem/issue, regarding the "Input", of such, while "Indexing"; as,

    (1) the poster, of this post, indicates, that they have "... been unable to physically key in ..." such.

    Whereas ...

    (2) one who is a long term Helper/Assistant (and, I would humbly suggest, somewhat of an authority on "Indexing") in this "Community.FamilySearch' Forum, indicates, that they have been "... able to enter apostrophes ...", in "Batches", to either, "Index"; and/or, "Review".

    As an aside ...

Just, perhaps, the matter at hand, is either, a "Device"; &/or, a "Browser', problem/issue.

[ Maybe, the matter of either, the "Device"; &/or, the "Browser', that the poster is using, needs investigation. ]

    Just my thoughts.

Thank you, Brett. I agree with your analysis and was waiting to see if Dale could insert the apostrophe after closing and reopening the program. If that didn't work then I was going to suggest doing a little computer cleaning by deleting cookies and temp files and possibly deleting the complete browser history. Here are Help Center articles that may be of help:

    Deleting cookies and temporary files:

    Compatible Browsers:

I wonder if open and closing the program did work. It usually does help with these little glitches.
