Records seem to be missing
After a couple of years' break I have returned to researching my family tree and noticed my mother was not included in the Family Tree. I tried to add her but found that my mother's record does not come up after doing a search. I did a similar search on Ancestry.com and it comes up straight away. Does anyone know why records might be missing from FamilySearch?

Hi nidostar.
There are 3 reasons that I can think of for you not finding your mother in FamilySearch:
- She has not been added - by anyone - so therefore using the Search option will not find her.
- She is still living - so therefore using the Search option will not find her.
- You may have an ID for her that refers to her "living" profile - so therefore using the Search option will not find her.
Try simply adding her as a new Person in FamilySearch.

@nidostar I understand your concern about your mother missing from the Family Tree. The first question I have is your mother still living? If so you will need to add her as your parent. If she is deceased, perform a search using her full name and birth date and birth place.
Ancestry.com is a different website, however, it does have a partnership with FamilySearch. So an individual may show on one and not the other.

Thank you so much for your responses. The problem seems to have been that I was entering my mother's year of birth in the search dialogue box on the home page of the website which, for some reason, transposes that info into a Life Event rather than Birth Event on the Advanced Search panel to the right of the list of search results. Hence her birth record did not appear at he top of the results as I would have expected. Panic over I can now get back to my research!!
