Recent Military Records?

My father attended the Naval Academy from 1950 to 1954 or 1955 and served in the Navy until 1959 or 1960. I'm looking for information on his separation date. A search of military records with his first and last name brings up nothing. With the name search term relaxed to first initial I only see records up to 1939.

Is there a cutoff date for the military records currently searchable on Familysear.org?

@WS86 you can likely order your deceased father's military records from the national archives. Google their website for details.

"Recent military service and medical records are not online. However, most veterans and their next of kin can obtain free copies of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) "

Many records that recent - especially for people who may still be living - will not be online. Ancestry has several databases of more recent US Navy records.
