What do we do when there is an obvious written error in the batch we are doing? The batch i am in lists 2 children from the same family born 6 days apart in the same year. Obviously not possible. This is only my first day at indexing so not sure if we put what is written regardless or need to do something else. Thanks

Welcome to Indexing! I hope you really enjoy doing this work!

You type exactly what you see on the document, errors and all. We are making a record of what is written on a document and we don't think much beyond that. The researcher will have the opportunity to view the image and make decisions about the validity of the dates.

Here is a link to a Help Center Article that explains this is more detail: https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-should-i-index-incorrect-records

It is always best to share your batch to get the most accurate answer. We do this by providing the URL link or the batch code. The Batch Code is the series of letters/numbers in brackets that follow the title. [XXXX-XXX] It can be really helpful when you start to index to have a second set of eyes on the batch in question. For instance, after years of indexing, I am wondering if you are working a census record. There could be two children in the same house, with the same surname, born 6 days apart of different mothers! Over the years I have learned that almost anything is possible when it comes to family history records!

Out of curiosity I googled how far apart twins can be born. It is very rare but quite possible for twins to be born even more than 6 days apart. We cannot know if that is what happened which is why we index what we see even if it sounds obviously wrong!
