Because the Family Tree on FamilySearch is a single, shared tree, you cannot simply delete profiles, especially not if they were entered by someone else. You can only delete a profile if you were the one who entered it, and nobody else has edited it.
What you can do is to disconnect incorrect relationships.

I shall try this but still cannot see how other people can enter names (I've never heard of) on my family tree.

Obviously, those other contributors believe that your relatives are related to the people they've added, who are likely to be their relatives. It is entirely possible that they're mistaken, but it is also possible that they're right, and you've found cousins you didn't know about.
Keep in mind that on a shared tree, there really is no such thing as "my family tree", in that I don't "own" any of the profiles of deceased people that are connected to me -- not even, say, my father's. If my cousin's kid (who also occasionally does genealogy) finds a school record for his grandma's big brother, he's perfectly free to edit my father's profile to add the record and any conclusions he may have reached based on it. Likewise, if someone adds a bunch of siblings to my great-grandmother, I may contact her to ask where she found the information and how or if she's related to them (and therefore to me), but I can't complain about the addition just because I've never heard of those people before.

A major change like that should have to be discussed between contributors. A spouse was added to my maternal grandmother, supposedly married in 1915, the year my mother was born & many children added.

You may wish to look at the sources added for the new people, in case there is good documentation for the additions.
