How to revert to the original search engine
Please consider making it possible to allow users to use the excellent old search method. It was a pleasure to use and I spent countless hours doing precise searches making over 14,000 contributions to trees in the last couple of years. I miss doing that; I loved solving puzzles. The new search engine is hopelessly silly. It is not a matter of getting used to it. Others have explained the many problems of the new. I no longer enjoy using FamilySearch.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Your are not alone ...
MANY; Many, many, of us wish for such ...
But ...
That Said ...
I really doubt such will ever happen ...
And, just in case you, were not aware ...
Here are some FOUR (x4) posts, in date (and, post) order of being posted, from someone, stating, to be part of the 'FamilySearch' Team that, 'Designed'; and, 'Developed", the the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", which appears, in some of the posts, to give some "Instruction", on HOW to use the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records".

FamilySearch Employee Responding to Search Page Feedback
I hope, that some of the information in these posts, may offer some help/assistance.
And ...
There are OTHER posts throughout this Forum, where the instigator of the above posts has responded with, advice; direction; instruction; help/assistance, on the NEW "Results" page/screen, of "Records Search" ('FamilySearch').
Now ...
That Said ...
You may like to ADD, your thoughts/comments, in those particular posts; so that, your thoughts/comments, like those of MANY other UNHAPPY Users/Patrons, ARE 'seen', by the Team, in 'FamilySearch', that 'Designed'; and, 'Developed" the NEW look "Search".
As you can 'see' from those posts ...
DESPITE, all the NEGATIVE 'Feedback', with regard to the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", from those that matter, the 'lowly' User/Patrons, where the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", was 'foisted' upon them; BEFORE, being "Fully" released to ALL User/Patrons - 'FamilySearch' RELEASED the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", to ALL Users/Patrons.
As I already suggested ...
You are not alone ...
We are ALL "Struggling"; and, NEED "Help", with the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records", which is NOT very 'User Friendly'.
MOST Users/Patrons want the NEW "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records" to be "Reverted" BACK to the PREVIOUS "Results" page/screen, for "Search Records".
But ...
That Said ...
SADLY, I doubt that will happen ...
I know that this DOES NOT help/assist; but, I hope that this gives you some, insight; and, perspective.

I totally agree w/Aiden Holden.
I wanted to go to a state & do my research on various records.
There used to be great info & I could find records, some w/images.
I'm totally lost on this site & when I first started genealogy it was the one I used & used & used!
I could find birth, death, marriage censuses, etc!
This site is now terrible!

Which State are you looking for? If you use Search by Place and Browse the State you can find the same records:

Any search now throws out thousands of results that have no resemblance to the specifics imputed. A simple search with a name and birth date and place of birth will throw up all kinds of irrelevant results...even the very first result on the list could be for a different name, or date or even country!

If you want help with a specific search - parameters or filters - just post that help request. There are many here in Community that can help you Search.
The filters are there to help you filter down results (those you notice that don't apply to your desired results) to more relevant results you are wanting returned.
Sometimes a change in search parameters can also help return more relevant results.
Sometimes irrelevant results may appear because of the Index changing location in error. There could be any number of reasons the result is being included in search results.
I typically find I am a filter or two away from the relevant search results (if those results exist in Familysearch databases - excepting those with interesting indexing issues).

I don't know about other people, but I don't want to take hours to find a result that I used to be able to find easily in 2 or 3 minutes with the old search. I used to enjoy the search, but now I hate the idea. This new system is BAD. I've used genealogy search engines practically from the being of time, decades, no amount of "assistance" is going to help; I've been through stuff like that too many times to remember. and they've never proved fruitful, only a waste of time. As Aiden Holden said above, the search results most often come up now for a different name, place, date, etc. Not relevant to the search terms entered at all. Quite frankly, I don't believe the team cares one iota, no matter what they say. Blaming the user or their computer is the standard response.

Ron Tanner - Familysearch Family Tree product manager says something at:
that I hadn't heard before that explains why Search changed. He says that FamilySearch ''[... had to update the technology Search was built on because support for the existing technology was expiring.] [About time 38:12]"
So that pretty much definitively states they won't be going back to the previous version.
