"...of Alberto" after name, Maltese Passport indexing

Hi all!

I haven't seen this before, so I wanted to ask...I'm indexing the Malta Passport Applications 1865-1943. After some men's names, it reads "...of Vittorio" or "...of Alberto". These are not the towns they live in and they do not sign their names that way, it's sometimes added with pencil. Could I safely assume those are their father's names?

If you could respond with the specific batch number we can look at that with you. The batch number is in the brackets at the end of the batch name.

Thank you for helping Index. That helps so many find records about their ancestors.

I have noticed the penciled "of" statements on the Malta passports also. This batch has them on the first and fourth images: "of John" and "of Anton"

In the fourth image, which appears to say "of Anton" next to the applicant's name, the applicant is claiming British nationality through either his father or paternal grandfather (neither is circled or crossed out so it is not clear which) whose name is give as Antonio. This could be additional evidence that the "of" phrases are giving the father's name. However, I don't want to assume this without specific directions.

In looking at these images I do see the of (and then a persons name). We do not have instructions from the record owners on what to do with this information. Please index as per the sample How to Index a Passport Application for a Minor. Remember that anyone reviewing these images will see the additional information and can make their own conclusions.

Thanks, @CHold! In batch # M3NZ-FK2, images 1-4 have examples of what I'm talking about. The "ofs" are written in pencil next to the undersigned's name, (b) row.
