How do I get my Ruler back.

It has always worked with lists. I have changed colors on it. Now it shows a check that it's on but it isn't. I've turned it off and on, changed colors, turned computer off and back on but no ruler. Any other solutions?

    Which Ruler is 'your ruler'?

Have you tried changing to a 'bright' color in Batch> Settings and then Zooming out on the Indexing image to the maximum smallest view - it may be outside the image view?

I did that but to no avail. Thanks.

    It's the Ruler on Indexing

Hi @ManionJudean . I suppose that there could be a glitch with the ruler, but IMO (and @genthusiast 's), there is a pretty good chance that it's tucked away near the top or bottom of the screen. Further, on what @genthusiast suggested,

    (1) Make the ruler yellow and slide the transparency slider entirely to the left, making it opaque. That will help it stand out.

    (2) Zoom out all the way: If you have a mouse with a wheel on it, wheel toward you all the way, or click the negative sign on the vertical toolbar as many times as you need to zoom out all the way.

    (3) Important: Move the resulting small image up and down as much as you can in both directions. The (now tiny) ruler might be sitting above the top or below the bottom of the image, hidden under the top or bottom of the viewing area. Moving the image up and down might reveal the ruler.

I wish they would restore the old behavior of the ruler. When you first turned it on, it would rest near the top of the image (its "Home" position). No matter where you had moved it since then, if you turned it off and then on again, it would return to that "Home" position so you could easily find it.

If these steps don't help, then maybe one of the moderators can help.

Also what operating system, browser, network type? You may need to 'reset' the browser or change security for familysearch.org sites to 'allow' everything on cookies, javascript, etc. It could be a change in something on familysearch side that I'm not aware of but should just be related to something on your side. Since shutdown and restart computer didn't help - sometimes that has helped for 'weird' behavior - I don't know a specific gremlin that could be causing it. Did you check the lock or other security icon next to the address - that is where you could check site security settings - or start looking in that direction ...

You could try Function 11 (F11) if on Windows to maximize the Web Indexing screen - to see if that helps the view any as well. But it sounds like the disappearing ruler bug has bitten again ... if you find a setting that resets it let us know...

Worst case, return the batch and download a new one and see if it was just a problem with that batch?

@genthusiast , and John Empoliti  thank you for your troubleshooting ideas.

    @ManionJudean

You may also try to solve the problems by deleting the cookies stored on your computer:

    • Your computer does not respond quickly and efficiently execute your commands.
    • Data on FamilySearch displays poorly or not at all.

    Steps (website)

    1. Go to https://familysearch.org/cookies.
    2. When the Reset your cookies? appears, click Yes.

Note: This feature only removes FamilySearch cookies from your browser.

Try these steps by logging out of web indexing-

    Refresh your web page

    Log in to web indexing.

Click on Batch> Settings>Ruler>adjust the color and transparency of the ruler>apply.

If the ruler still does not work, change your browser to another compatible browser- Firefox- Chrome-Microsoft edge- Safari for Apple-

Let us know if the problem persist.

I tried searching for the "hiding" ruler but to no avail. Not sure about deleting cookies. Thanks for the advice.

The cookies include resources for the Indexing app so it might help - but I would also wonder if downloading a new batch helps?

It might be worth it to (I am assuming you are using Chrome browser?):

See what your Chrome version reads (chrome://version/)

What are your Chrome appearance settings (chrome://settings/appearance)

Have your system proxy settings changed? chrome://settings/system

    try resetting Chrome (chrome://settings/reset)

or maybe detail what extensions (chrome://extensions/) you have installed?

    Just a couple more suggestions...

Please provide the batch code of a project you are working and cannot see the ruler.

A question, is the ruler available in another project, try indexing or reviewing a project and let us know if it appears after clearing cookies, or changing browser.

It's not available in any project. I change colors and the little blinking light flashes but nothing else happens.

Are you using Firefox as your browser? I use Firefox and a few days ago, the ruler tool was checked but the ruler would not show up. I ended up clearing my cache ("deleting cookies") and the ruler tool is now working normally.
