Do not like new Search Engine

I am sure I am not alone. The new Search Engine is absolutely unusable. In the past Family Search was my go-to site for everything. I highly recommended it to dozens if not hundreds of people over the years.

The Search Engine is so bad I may not even do genealogy, at least not on Family Search any longer. I will certainly not recommended it to anyone in its current state.

This is too bad because for decades this was a wonderful and useful site. This is a good example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

    @Warren Rheinschmidt

I'm a regular user of Familysearch and I can assure you that you're not alone with your sentiment. Many thousands of comments have been made expressing dismay with the new format. Currently, like a number of others I seem to spend more time posting comments than getting any valid research done, but it passes the time.

I am particularly interested in how you came to post your comment. The matter is the topic of an ongoing debate in the community forum. Did you use the animated "Feedback" button on the right hand side of the display, or the "Feedback" hyperlink at the bottom left of the page, or some other method ?

I have given the new search my best try but still do not like it. The old way was much better. It gave several more options to look for family because of the different spellings. Now it takes 10 times longer to look things up. Ancestry changed their searching too after they were sold for the 3rd or 4th time and they have lost a lot of people due to the changes. I am afraid that this is the same that will happen at family search. Thanks for your time. Carol

I also agree with these comments. I have not been able to work on family tree for about two months and then I got on and everything has changed and it is a mess. I have not even been able to get anything to work since the change. It is very frustrating when I would like to work and waste time trying to wait for things to work.

Please work on changing the search back.

This new format is awful to say the least. Not user-friendly. It's seems it's just change for changes sake. I used to be able to see several entries at once, now I can see only two at a time. Takes ages to find something you want.

I agree with every comment posted above. It is absolutely unusable. And it is not because 'it is different, and a change' as I was told. It will not search anything unless it is already been found and posted.

I also agree that I don't have time for this nonsense. It was fine before, but you had to break it. For the life of me, I can't understand WHY you did that.

I am more than a disgruntled user. My research is now going to be purchasing books from Historical Societies. It is less frustrating.

Thank you so much for making me give up genealogy after 30 years.

The new search engine is unusable, and may stop using it totally if not fixed!

The FS search engine is as much use as a chocolate teapot!

I've just tried searching for Jordan (surname) in Northumberland, England between 1650-1750, exact search.

    The first result was :

    Edward Manan Jordan

    Sex Male

    Father's Name Edward Jordan

    Father's Sex Male

    Mother's Name Mary Jordan

    Mother's Sex Female

    Spouse's Name Sally Ann Buell

    Spouse's Sex Female

    Spouse's Father's Name H. P. Buell

    Spouse's Father's Sex Male

    Spouse's Mother's Name E. J. Buell

Marriage Date 1 Jan 1895 Wrong date!

Marriage Place Norfolk, Norfolk, Virginia, United States Wrong country!

    Event Type Marriage

If the search engine cannot even get the country or date correct, it's no fit for purpose.
