Sketchy records
My Grandfather has no history of birth parents or family before my Grandma married him (Clarence Arthur Skinner) He has only a draft card saying he was born Pittsburgh, PA 7/8/1891 Nothing after that. He was married to Carrie (Caroline) Geier my grandma at 51yrs old. Had a Son Michael (My dad) They divorced around the 1930's No other records found anywhere. Why can't I find who his parents were and where he went after working the Oregon Shipyards (Military?) I am lost

Yes that is Clarence my Grandfather. I am looking who his father and his mother were. Also where he was after the war. I know he worked at the shipyards in Oregon. Then nothing. I never knew my Grandfather and would like to know a bit of my fathers side. There are other Clarence Arthur Skinners out there, without knowing his parents I am at a standstill. I believe he was somewhat of a stray cat like my Dad God rest his soul. Thank You for answering, Debbie PS. The Surname Conklin comes up often in my searches.

Well, an obvious next step would be to attach all the historical records that are waiting to be attached to his Family Tree page. After that, work on the pages of his wife and child. Very often there will be clues on related person's records.

All dead ends. His Son was my deceased father Michael Arthur Skinner King, who never knew his dad, and did not care to know him. My Grandma (Clarence's deceased wife) booted Clarence out of the house. All records point to Clarence Arthur Skinner being from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania no parents for him listed on anything. I have been at this for years he was never listed with parents on any documents.

Clarence now has some additional historical records attached, giving his birthplace: Pittsburgh. A next step for you would be to work on building profiles of Skinner families in Pittsburgh around the time of his birth.
Search less, build more. It is very common when searching to pass right over the records we are looking for because we do not recognize them. Build the tree around the person, attaching sources, and the Hints system will find sources for your person. Also, you will have obtained the greatest return on effort.
