Private merge???
I entered my cousin's father into my family tree. She entered her father into her tree . She discovered my entry of her father and decided to merge them but family search would not allow the merge saying it was Private. I tried to merge using the ID number she had, but on my side it came up as "unknown".
How can we merge the two records? She is a non member and I am a member...not sure if that makes a difference.

There should be no problem if your relative is deceased. However, due to privacy issues, living persons can only be viewed / edited within the private space where they were created. So, any IDs created for any living relative cannot be merged until his decease.
This is a commonly reported issue, but please advise if both records are marked as deceased.

Hello @CullenHeatherAnne1,
Your question has been moved to the Family Tree section of the Community. It is open there even though it shows as closed in the general section.
Thanks!

Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a member of the Church ... ]
Just quickly, in passing ...
Question: Is you Cousin's Father STILL "Living"?
IF, your Cousin's Father is STILL "Living"; THEN, you will NOT be able to "Merge"/"Combine", your Version/Copy of him; and, your Cousin's Version/Copy of him.
Users/Patrons, CANNOT "Merge"/"Combine", ANY "Living" individuals/persons, with the "Living" individuals/persons of ANOTHER User/Patron; as, "Living" individuals/persons reside in the "Private Spaces" of the User/Patron who "Created" them; and, they can ONLY be 'seen' (and. accessed) by the User/Patron who "Created" them - the REASON for this is "Privacy" (of the "Living").
And, even ...
IF, your Cousin's Father is "Deceased"; BUT, one of you has him a "Deceased"; and, the other has him as "Living"; THEN, you will NOT be able to "Merge"/"Combine", your Version/Copy of him; and, your Cousin's Version/Copy of him.
In the latter case, BOTH, have to have, the same 'Status', of "Deceased", to be able to "Merge"/"Combine" them.
I hope this helps,
Brett

The message comes up as can not merge private people.

Sound like, one of you may still MAY have him as "Living" ...
Unless ...
Further 'Question':
Do either (or BOTH) of you, have him; as, a "Confidential" Person, in your respective Accounts.
As, "Confidential" Persons, reside in one's "Private Spaces"; even if, they are "Deceased".
Even ...
IF, ONLY one of you, had him; as, a "Confidential" Person; THEN, that could also account for the inability to "Merge"/"Combine"; and, the "Private" People response.
Just a thought.

If the issue is not trying to merge a living and deceased perhaps the person is a confidential person, if that is true FamilySearch will need to intervene. Read more here to see if the person could be confidential

It will be quite evident ... a (Coloured) "Banner", at the TOP, of the "Person/Details" page/screen ...
Brett
ps: Remember ... that is a just a 'long shot' ... a guess ...

Hello @CullenHeatherAnne1,
To assist you better, may we have the Person IDs?

YES GSGX-YDW and GMB6-ZKT

Heather
I just took a 'look,' at those two (x2) 'FamilySearch Person Identifiers' (PIDs) ...
From the perspective of the 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ 1 ] GSGX-YDW
UNKNOWN ... ( GSGX-YDW )
With the "Banner" ...
------------------
Person Not Found
This person does not exist, has been removed, or is restricted in FamilySearch
------------------
[ 2 ] GMB6-ZKT
Jacob Saba Hanna ARAJ MD ... ( GMB6-ZKT )
Birth, 17 October 1922, Palestine - Death, 15 December 2018,White, Hall, Georgia, United States
Now ...
That Said ...
It would appear, that the individual/person with the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' of GSGX-YDW ...
WOULD be a "Confidential Person", that is in the "Private Spaces" of one of you, the one who created that particular version/copy of Jacob Saba Hanna ARAJ MD.
Furthermore ...
I would humbly suggest, that the REASON that the record for the individual/person with the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' of GSGX-YDW has the 'Status' of a "Confidential Person", would be due to his 'Place' of "Birth".
As, that 'Place' of "Birth", certainly in the past, is one of those 'Places" (ie. Countries, "Localities", in the World), that would "Trigger", a "Restricted" Place/Country/Locality "Alert"; and, 'FamilySearch' would (back then) automatically make such individuals/persons, from those "Localities" (eg. Countries) as a "Confidential Person".
These days ...
Much of the time ...
We Users/Patrons CAN formally "Request" that the "Restriction" of "Confidential Person", be "Lifted"/"Removed".
I have done so, on a number of occasions (or, helped/assisted Others do the same).
In my cases, it was usually the 'Place' of "Death", which was during World War II, that "Triggered" the "Restricted" Place/Country/Locality "Alert"; and, the imposition of the 'Staus' of "Confidential Person".
So ...
That Said ...
Which ever of you, has the individual/person, with the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' of GSGX-YDW; as, a "Confidential Person", in their "Private Spaces", WILL need, to make a FORMAL "Request", to REMOVE the 'Status' of "Confidential Person", from GSGX-YDW.
Once that is done; and, the 'Status' of "Confidential Person" removed from GSGX-YDW, then you will be able to "Merge"/"Combine" BOTH, UNKNOWN ... ( GSGX-YDW ); and, Jacob Saba Hanna ARAJ MD ... ( GMB6-ZKT ), together.
I hope this helps.

I just hope that it does really help.
That is what this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum was originally established for, a number of Years ago ...
Users/Patrons, HELPING / ASSISTING, Users/Patrons ...
And, the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum has been quite successfully operating for those Years.
As an aside ...
Just in passing ...
Perhaps, the "Moderators" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel) ], have ALREADY 'Communicated' with you, through ("Private") "Messaging' ...
And ... IF, they have; THEN, all well and good ...
But ...
That Said ...
I was HOPING that by NOW ...
That the "Moderators" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel) ], in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, would HAVE taken, this post of yours, into the workings, of 'FamilySearch' "Support"; and, forwarded the matter onto, the "Department" in 'FamilySearch', that investigates and resolves matters, pertaining to "Confidential Persons" (or, "Restricted Persons").
Thereby ...
NEGATING the need (for an ADDITIONAL "Request"), for whichever of you, has the individual/person, with the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' of GSGX-YDW; as, a "Confidential Person", in their "Private Spaces", to make a FORMAL "Request", to REMOVE the 'Status' of "Confidential Person", from GSGX-YDW.
Furthermore ...
IF, you have any more queries, regarding this whole matter; THEN, please, do not hesitate to come back here, in this post of yours.
There are many Participants (ie. Users/Patrons), in the Forum, who are only too willing to help/assist.
And, of course, just like there are many "Moderators" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel) ], in the Forum, who are only too willing to help/assist.
Good Luck.
