Date(s) of Deceased on Obituaries
US, Minnesota, Brown County—Obituaries, 1855–1990[M36S-M5R]
I am indexing the Age field for a baby who passed away at age 9 months 26 days.
Field help says: "Type the age in years. If fractions of years were recorded, round down to the nearest full year."
Problem: Child is LESS than a full year old; therefore, I cannot round down to the nearest full year. If I round DOWN, then it is 0--which is also less than a full year (not to mention uninformative!)
Yet, the child did live for 9 months (a fraction of a year.) I rounded up and entered "1", or should I have entered <BLANK>? Might the instructions need to be ammended for clarity?
Please advise if entering 1 is correct??
Thank you!

Hello User 1586396941854648888,
Following the instruction on the Field Help to index Age it says:
Type the age in years. If fractions of years were recorded, round down to the nearest full year.
If less than 1 year was recorded or a child was stillborn, type the age as 0 (zero).
If the child lived until 9 months then we should index it as 0.
If it lived over 12 months or 1 year old then age should be indexed over 1.
The researcher will find the person and will see the rest of the information.
