There is no contact name associated with my existing account. I tried adding one in settings but it saves and then goes away. Due to no contact name I am no longer able to search in the Family Tree.

@caroestes As we understand your problem you are unable to sign into FamilySearch. You said you have tried to add a contact name and it did save but then goes away. It seems that you are discussing two different access names in FamilySearch. There is you Username which with your password allows you to enter into FamilySearch. There is also a Contact Name which identifies you to other guests of FamilySearch.
If you have forgotten you Username you will need to sign into FamilySearch and in the upper right hand corner and click the Sign In button, you will see the Sign In box, select the Forgot Username and follow the instructions. Please see a link below:
