"Most of the time, you should type what you see on the document you are indexing." https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/should-i-always-type-what-i-see-in-indexing
Yes, type "McC"

I also think in this instance it is probably his middle name. On this page I don't see any other Jones etc.
My response was to indicate military abbreviations:
Possibly - Mission Control Center, McClelland, maritime component commander, mission control command, mobile communications ...
McM - medical civil-military operations

A middle name. I've seen this quite a bit in indexing... McC, McL, McM, etc. as a middle name. You can search in Family Search with McC (for example) and put in a place name and you'll see it's not uncommon.

Agree abbreviation of his middle name to distinguish him from other men with the same given and surname.

Thank you for your reply.
Who would add the McC or what ever Mc
Was to be used. It is still a little confusing to me.

I’ve always presumed that McC, for example, was an abbreviation of an old family surname, e.g., McCallister or McComb, given as a middle name originally and abbreviated for space-saving purposes. Or perhaps permanently shortened by the bearer of that name for personal reasons. I just index it as is and let the Researchers look into its history tor their family.
