Unable to view a full-size images associated with links to search questions?
I'm using both a Mac-mini with Big Sur Operating System and an I-Mac with High Sierra Operating System. Just today, when I do a search I get numerous hits, some indicating images with a camera icon. But when I click on the camera icon, I just get the attached screen, not a full-size image. If I try clicking on the link with the name instead, I get details with a thumbnail image of the document, which contains an offer to "View Original Document". But when I click on that, I get the same attached message. Basically I'm unable to view the full-size image associated with the search function.
Is there something I need to do with the new Familyseach "search" function for it to work with my Mac operating systems?
Are both of those Macs with the latest/updated system? Are you using Safari browser (which version)? I'm sorry I don't have a Mac to test but It sounds like you are having the same issue with updated OS/browser. I have seen a few other Mac users post with recent issues but have not seen a 'resolution'. Perhaps someone with a Mac will be able to give you some pointers.0
I replaced the IMac with the Mac-mini which has the latest operating system. I use Firefox as my brower in both cases. The reason I mentioned the iMac was that uses the older Mac operating system (High Sierra)0
Do you have the same problem if you try to open images under Search> Images rather than Search> Records? You'll need to give Images a place to search instead of a Person's name. I'm just curious if you have the same issue there...
Also it was working before today and now Search is doing this or is this the first time you've tried to Search on the Mac-mini?
If Safari browser is there on the new MacOS can you try that browser and see if it does the same thing on FamilySearch? My best guess at this point is just some browser version setting/conflict with the site - but like I said I don't have a Mac to test...
Here's an old article with a similar issue with Firefox. I wonder if clearing the cache, etc has the same steps on Firefox/new MacOS:0
When I go to Search>Images and identify a Record group (i.e. Georgia, United States) it allows me to search a few films such as Probate records, or some others that appear to be loading (these seem to be films from some of the Category files). But, they aren't census records.
I haven't been on familysearch for a few days. But, everything was working fine before. I just transferred to the Mac-mini which appears to be coincidental to familysearch introducing a new search screen. I did log on to familysearch.org using my old iMac and did the same search and ended up with the same screen. So, I'm guessing that the problem has more to do with familysearches new search screen (and image viewing) than the new Mac-mini. Otherwise, I wouldn't get the same problem with my old iMac and former Operating System.
Have other Mac users experienced similar problems?0
Yes, with the new Mozilla Firefox version, MacOS version and the new FamilySearch Search rollout coming out at the same time I have seen a few Mac users reporting issues. I am wondering though if caching/cookies settings or possibly some built-in security (popup blocker or something) in the new Firefox could be conflicting with the FamilySearch site. I'm sorry I don't have more concrete ideas about settings to try and change but I don't frequently use a Mac. I don't know if you will get too many Mac users from FamilySearch Community users responding tonight - but give it some patience and someone here will respond with some useful steps for you...
You are probably right though - if FamilySearch is not working well on the old Mac - try clearing the cache, logout of FamilySearch and log back in - if it still has the problem on the old Mac after doing that then it's 'probably' a FamilySearch update issue...0
I did try clearing the cookies from my Familysearch. I will log out tonight and log back in tomorrow.
Thank you for your efforts.0
Did things settle down overnight? Are you able to Search> Records today? I have seen some success - if you are trying to Search> Records (entering Person names/dates etc) - if you get an indication of page or digital folder etc - you can go to Search> Records> By Collection: Collection name and give it the name you got from the Record search - that appears to be a workaround for now. I hope this helps.0
Basically, I am still unable to view full-size images on either Mac Operating System. The person I spoke with in Family Search recommended viewing the image using the method you suggest and eventually I was able to do so. However, that workaround is a very complicated method and probably not something I would use in my normal research.
Again, thank you for following through. I now suspect that the issue has more to do with the revisions made to the familysearch.org "search" program rather than the Mac equipment or programs I am using. Hopefully, the developers will go back to the drawing board and figure out what the problem is?1
I tend to agree with you - but unable to confirm. Things will work out ... eventually - thanks for patience in using the work around. I appreciate it!0
I just spoke to someone who has a computer with Big Sur Version 11.6 and she said she wasn't having problems. Are you still having problems? Or was this a temporary thing? Please look at the private message I sent yesterday.1
So there appears then - that maybe there was a Firefox add-on or setting that was in conflict. If you change setting/add-ons and it reoccurs it would be nice for FamilySearch Community to have that knowledge.
Thanks for your patience and persistence too!0
Just a little update from another conversation I've had about MacOS/Firefox issues with browsing FamilySearch:
It appears the refresh of Firefox may have reset your security certificates - but I don't know the complete issue. You may want to 'keep an ear to the ground' to see if there are any further developments.0
