New member introduction
Is this the place for me to introduce myself? I consider myself Welsh (born and bred), though my British ancestry is the usual mix of Welsh, English, with some Irish and a German via Australia and New Zealand.
I've lived in Wales, England, Sweden and the US. Currently back in north Wales and no plans to move on. I relish helping others with their discoveries; seeing the joy when telling someone where their unknown grandfather is buried and why they share his name, or assisting the youth get to grips with Indexing and finding.
My UK ancestors come from Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan; my English are from Devon, Somerset and Avon, all coming to Cardiff when coal was king, Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside (watermen). My Irish ancestors left for Victoria when everyone was leaving Ireland due to starvation. One of my hero ancestors in my German great-great-grandfather who survived the tragedy of the sinking of the RMS Tayleur in 1854.
My wife is American and has extensive Scottish ancestry, from Edinburgh, Perth, Auchterader, Dumfries, Kilbirnie and Glasgow. We've have some very enriching trips to see and explore her heritage there, and to visit the towns, places and houses where they lived and died. As such, I have experience in consulting Scottish records including kirk sessions. I also have knowledge of service in the Honourable East India Company, and finding records of Scots who served in India.
I have research expertise in Welsh, English, Scottish, Swedish and American ancestry, with a smidgeon of German and Polish. I'm looking forward to connecting with the group in our mutual searches.
