Correcting transcription errors

Hi @zenobia104
We went to the FamilySearch catalog and discovered that many of the digital images from the Devon Parish Registers have not been indexed and are provide through the courtesy of Findmypast, one of our partners. Anything that is indexed or provided through another site cannot be edited at FamilySearch, so we invite you to review the specific collection you are concerned about to see if it is provided through Findmypast. If it is, please contact them regarding any errors you may find.
Since you did not provide the URL for one of the transcription errors you are concerned about, we could not verify whether it is one of the indexing/transcription errors that can now be edited at FamilySearch.
If you see an indexed record connected to a digital image that you are concerned about, when you open the indexed record, a darker "header" has the name and basic information about the person the record is about. In the header you will find an Edit button. If it is not greyed out, it is an active button that will allow you to edit various information on the record. Not everything can be edited, and not every collection had currently be edited, but the two knowledge articles we have provided below explain how to make corrections to indexed record when that feature is available, and why there are indexed records that cannot yet be edited.
You will notice some additional links at the bottom of these knowledge articles that you might also find helpful. We hope you will review the indexed records that concern you and make needed corrections.

I am researching the Rutledge family in County Tyrone. When I put in the Rutledge name for Tyrone - it pulls up as "Tyrone, County Galway, Ireland" in the source. THIS is incorrect! County Galway is a different place completely. Not having this correct really makes it difficult to search the area I'm looking for. Every single result I got when doing this had this incorrect. (census information). Any way to get this fixed?

We apologize for the inconvenience that is caused when an indexed record shows an incorrect standardized location.
As explained above your post, when you search with your ancestor's information and you find that a record has an incorrect standardized location, you can usually edit the location to make it correct, however, before we can report your concern further, we really need the URL of the record that has the incorrect location. Sometimes there are only one or two records that have the incorrectly standardized location, but sometimes it is a large percentage of the film that has the wrong information. This does make a difference as you do your research and we would like to have details about how you did your search [did you search with your ancestor's information, did you browse a specific collection, or did you perhaps search from the catalog, for example]. Next, always provide the URL of any historical record you may have a question about. This is the only way to get a specific concern addressed.
We did try to search for members of the Rutledge Family in several Ireland censuses. We started by using the BROWSE ALL PUBLISHED COLLECTIONS link on the Record Search page. Next, we found the collections of Ireland Census records, then we typed just the surname and location as County Tyrone into the search box on the next screen. We generated many results for Rutledge family members as shown in the screen shot below which comes from the 1911 Ireland Census.
We are not certain whether this search path will be helpful to you, but how you search, and what you enter will have a great effect on finding your desired results. The following knowledge articles provide some tips about doing your research and suggestions about how to use the results effectively. We hope this information will be helpful.

Why is Family Search emailing me other people's questions and answers?
0 -
@z104, FamilySearch is emailing you about activity on a thread that you started in the Community (back in September). The reason it's other people's questions and answers is that at least one person has posted a question as a response on your thread, instead of starting a new thread as they ought. There are a lot of people who are confused about how the Community works, so this is a regular occurrence.
If you don't want to get these sorts of email notifications, you can edit your preferences: click the gray circle-person-icon-thingy at the top right, choose Edit Profile, and on the resulting Edit Profile page, click Notification Preferences near the top of the right-hand column. If you remove all of the checkmarks from the Email column and click the Save General Preferences button, FS will no longer email you about Community activity.
