The following knowledge article may help when you cannot access your FamilySearch ancestry account.
My account has already been linked to Ancestry
While you are on the Ancestry screen that says, "We're sorry, your FamilySearch Account has already been linked to an account on Ancestry," find your "UCDMID" number. This number identifies the Ancestry account that’s linked to your FamilySearch account, and you may need it to solve the problem.
- Make sure you are signed out of Ancestry.com.
- Sign in to FamilySearch.org.
- Go to https://www.familysearch.org/partner/ancestry.
- Click sign in to connect the account. You see a message that the account is already linked to an account on Ancestry.
- While you are on the Ancestry screen that says, "We're sorry, your FamilySearch Account has already been linked to an account on Ancestry," look at the URL.
- Find the eight- and four-digit number/letter combinations after the letters ucdmId=. (Note: If you see a padlock icon in the URL on an android device, click it to open the entire URL.) You can learn more in the article Church of Jesus Christ-Ancestry® Membership on Ancestry.com.
- Copy this number down, take a screen shot, or take a picture of it.
Steps (website)
- See if your FamilySearch Account is already connected to Ancestry:
- Sign in to FamilySearch.org.
- In the upper right corner, click your name.
- Click Settings.
- Click Connected Accounts along the top toolbar.
- Check for Ancestry on the list. If it is there, you already have a free account. Sign in to Ancestry with the username and password you chose when you created an account with them.
- If Ancestry is not on the list, continue with step 2.
- See if multiple people use the same email address for different FamilySearch Accounts:
- If you are signed into FamilySearch.org, sign out. Then click Sign In again.
- Click Forgot username.
- Follow the instructions as if to retrieve a lost username using your email address. You will then receive an email listing all the usernames using that email address.
- If the email contains more than one username, then one of the other users has already created a free Ancestry account using that email address.
- If the email contains only one username, continue with step 3.
- Make sure that the Ancestry account you are using is connected to FamilySearch.org:
- Go to Ancestry, and click Sign In.
- Enter your email address and a password.
- In the top right corner, click your name.
- Click Your Account.
- Under Subscriptions, you should see "Church of Jesus Christ–Ancestry Membership." This information indicates that you have the free subscription for Church members. If you do not see this note, contact Ancestry. It means one of the following:
- Another person used this email address to create the free Ancestry account. For example, it may have been created by another user with your account or by a family member who uses the same email address as you.
- You have more than one Ancestry account. You may, for example, have created a trial directly with Ancestry and then created another one when you set up your free Church of Jesus Christ–Ancestry membership.
- Contact the support for Ancestry.com for more help. You will need the UCDMID number when you contact them.
