TRACING SPOUSE OF DECEASED ANCESTOR TO CONFIRM LINEAGE.
Hi Fam Search,
I am looking to trace the spouse of a William Roberts born in 1798 in the UK. The documents linked to his name state he is widowed. His son is Richard Gilbert Roberts born 1821 in Shropshire, England. He married Mary Catherine Evans, and they emigrated to South Africa. They had eight children. Their son Richard married Susanna Kruger in Ladysmith, South Africa.
i would also like to trace the emigration documents showing the port of exit in the UK and port of arrival in South Africa of Richard Gilbert Roberts.
Very keen to know what you may discover or how you could assist.
Many thanks and Kind Regards,
Rowland Roberts.
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Hi,
Can I share my query to any of the groups as a discussion or will this just duplicate it?
Thank you.

Thank you for your post. You definitely can post your question in groups. The various groups have members that are very involved in doing research in those specific areas and can give suggestions and help.
Have you tried looking in our Research Wiki? The Wiki does not contain records but helps you find where to find specific records. To find the Research Wiki, click on the Search tab found at the top of a FamilySearch page, the click on Wiki from the drop-down.
If you enter Spropshire, England in the search field, it will bring to the Spropshire, England page. Civil Registrations did not start until 1837 but clicking on the Church Records link on the right shows the different Parish's in Spropshire and the dates they have records for. If you have an ideas of which Parish he would have been christened in , you may be able to find christening records for Richard Gilbert Roberts. Many times these records have the mother's first and last name. Below is the link to this page.
You could also search the Wiki for emigration and immigration records for England and South Africa.
If you haven't already tried it, you might try clicking on the Records tab in the Search drop-down box. You can enter your relatives there, or browse different collections.
Hopefully one of these suggestions will help you find the information you are seeking.
Good Luck!
