BillionGraves collection has not been updated in some time - why is this?

The last time the BillionGraves collection was updated was June 2019 - why has there been a delay in updating to include the new records?

When I asked BG support they said the ball was in FamilySearch's court on this issue. So - what's the hold up? I would have thought something about this process would be automated in some way...

    Updates to databases such as BillionGraves are driven by contracts between us and them. However, the schedule for that update is not shared with us. Remember a lot of manpower on FamilySearch is by volunteers and knowledge of that wonderful cadre of people is quite varied as are schedules. Please be patient. We are doing the best we can with what the Lord shares with us.

    Is there anything that we can do as volunteers to assist updating FamilySearch with BillionGraves.com information?

    Hi Dan,

    Yes there is. If you don't have a BillionGraves membership you can join for free then you can help with transcribing the photo information. It is easy to do and can be very rewarding.

    https://billiongraves.com/

    Click on the link and once you have joined or signed in hover your curser over the word volunteer on the task bar near the BillionGraves title and then click transcribe. It is pretty straight forward but there is help if you need it.

    Best regards

    Cedar

    Hello,

    I have been photographing and transcribing for BillionGraves. I have the Billiongraves membership. There is a cool way to link the record to the familysearch record when transcribing. I have linking the familysearch record on billiongraves after verifying that the records match. I was under the impression that once the linking happens on the BillionGraves site to familysearch, then the BillionGraves record would be attached as a source in familysearch. How long does this take for the billiongraves source to be attached?

    I put a comment in the collaborate tag for several that I transcribed on BillionGraves and then linked directly to the familysearch record (in BillionGraves), and then followed those people to see when the source is attached to the familysearch person. It seems like this should be fairly automatic, as it is already attached directly in BillionGraves, how/when is the source generated and attached as a source in familysearch?

    Here are a couple examples:

    Thank you!

    @Searcher3434

    It's doubtful you will get a satisfactory FamilySearch response to this issue. If the matter relates to anything contractual, the precise reason would be considered to be confidential.

    The viewing of much of the material on the FamilySearch website is subject to restrictions. One of the members of "Community" regularly approaches record custodians, who sometimes deny the restrictions are due to any clause they have inserted in the relevant contract, but FamilySearch does not respond to such reports. Neither, it seems, are the supposedly unnecessary restricted viewing conditions ever lifted.

    In fairness to FamilySearch in the Billiongraves case, perhaps the person in their Support team did not have access to any contract details: these might contain information that would explain why no updates have been made since 2019.
