Relationships when a spouse dies and the other remarries.
Hi,
I have a great Aunt who married young, and Maiden name is now Masters. Her husband died a couple of years later, and she remarried to George Ingram. However, some one had put my G-Aunt Agnes Ellen Faulkner down as the spouse of George when in fact the marriage record shows Agnes Ellen Masters. The problem I am having is when I try to replace Agnes Ellen Faulkner with Agnes Ellen Masters, they say they are the same person, or, do I want to create a new person. The code number would change so I quit for now. Any suggestions on how to get Agnes Ellen Masters as the wife of George Ingram?
Thank you,
Rick Faulkner

if your great-aunt married twice, the 2nd marriage would commonly show her married name as the surname.
You can add her married name in other Information and explain that she was a widow when she married George Ingram.
She should have only one ID connected to both husbands.

The whole point of a maiden name is that it does not change at marriage, so I don't understand what you mean by "and Maiden name is now Masters." Do you mean that her surname as reported on the second marriage is Masters?
If I'm interpreting this correctly, then the system is correct: the two Agnes Ellens really are the same person. She was born as Agnes Ellen Faulkner, then became Mrs. Masters, then Mrs. Ingram. So in FamilySearch's Family Tree, she should have Agnes Ellen Faulkner as her name in the Vitals box. Under Other Information, she should have two Alternate Names with the "type" chosen as "married name": (Mrs.) Agnes Ellen Masters, and (Mrs.) Agnes Ellen Ingram. In the Family Members section, she should have two spousal relationships: Mr. Masters married to Agnes Ellen Faulkner, and George Ingram married to Agnes Ellen Faulkner.

In general, enter the birth name in the Vitals section of the Person page. Enter other names, such as nicknames, in the Other Information section. Legal name changes are an exception.

Thank you both for your explanations. I did confuse my question by using the word Maiden name for second marriage. The fact that Agnes Ellen Faulkner Has to have the same ID for both husbands as pointed out by Miss Jessie really helps. Thanks Julia for giving me the Information using Other Information, much appreciated.
