William Such was born in 1782 in Saint Phillips, Birmingham, WARWICKSHIRE, England.

He was Christened on 25 Jun 1782 in Saint Phillips Church, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.

He was a Goldsmith Engraver in BIRMINGHAM Warwickshire he and Matilda Bloomer were married

on 11 Oct 1808 in Saint Martin’s Church, Birmingham, Warwickshire..

After living in Aston Manor, Warwickshire, he died in Apr 1855 at age of 72/73 years.

He was Interred at St Pauls Hockley Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.

He left a will and two of his executors were toy manufacturers (Birmingham makers of Silver Trinkets).

I have seen the will and have been searching in vain for several years now to save a copy to his tree

and to write up his story. Can you help me at all please? I have searched Ancestry, Find my past and gone

through thousands of records. Thank you in advance. Mike [email protected]

    Dear Mike J Charles,

I am not an expert at this, but using the Search/Records feature at the top of FamilySearch I possibly found the index to the will, which is available on FindMyPast.

However, FindMyPast is a subscription based website, so unless you have an account with them you might night be able to access this URL link:

    https://search.findmypast.com/record?id=bmd%2fir27%2f64%2f187&parentid=bmd%2fd%2fdduty%2f3267811&fulfillmenttypekey=6091

The image only shows an index and says that his record is on page or "folio" 382. But I could not get to the actual will itself.

This is the image from FamilySearch that you can see for free that leads you to the FindMyPast website:

Best wishes to you in your search! If you want specific steps of how I got to this on FamilySearch, please reply below.

@mike j charles Reviewing your desire to add a copy of the will for William Such, ID# MVCK-1SG, are you saying that you have seen the will but now have lost where it was? Or are you saying that you have a copy of the will but now want to add it to the Memories of William Such and do not know how to do that?

If you have seen the will, where did you see it? And when?

I saw the will many year ago, so long I have forgotten when.

    886EZL

    Thank you for your help.

I now see that the reason for the lack of success in searching is because I was looking for Birmingham. Your return shows "Ashton" which should read Aston, Warwickshire.

Can you send me directions please. I have searched FMP for many days without success.

    Thank you.

This is how I found the link in FamilySearch. Again, all you will see is the FamilySearch link above that is directing you to Find My Past. You can only access the index in FindMyPast if you have an account.

    1) In FamilySearch click on Search at the top. 2) Choose Records from the list. 3) On the left side I typed in his information including birth year and place and death as Warwickshire, England with the year. *Also select "type" and click on Probate...then hit Search. 4) The search came up with 4 results as shown below. Click on the one for death in 1855 for Aston, because that is the closest match.

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=William&q.surname=Such&q.birthLikePlace=Warwick%2C%20England&q.birthLikeDate.from=1782&q.birthLikeDate.to=1782&q.deathLikePlace=Warwick%2C%20England&q.deathLikeDate.from=1855&q.deathLikeDate.to=1855&f.recordType=6&count=20&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on

I don't know what I am doing wrong but after following your instructions I am still getting nil results. I have even cut and pasted https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=William&q.surname=Such&q.birth without any success. The page loads with the search parameters listed but no results. Thanks for trying. Mike

Once again, try going to Search then Records. You might type in the following:

Name: William Such Birth: 1782 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Death: 1855 Warwickshire, England

Then click "Type" and check "Probate" then click Search. Each time I get 4 results.

I'm sorry if we are getting different results.

I had a look at Findmypast, and in my view there is something the matter with the Search as I could not duplicate the record results found by 886ELZ

However, 886ELZ advised that the record found on Findmypast was an Index only, not the actual record.

On the FamilySearch record there is a reference IR 27/64. After some investigation, I believe this is a reference to records at The National Archives, Kew, UK. There is a free download available in the following link, but from what I can see, it is probably the original of the Index mentioned by 886ELZ, on Findmypast

    IR 27/64/5 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C15636538

There is reference to TNA records PROB 11 in this link

    https://web.archive.org/web/20210120164645/http%3A//www.sog.org.uk/learn/help-getting-started-with-genealogy/guide-five/

The is a TNA reference for 1855 PROB 11/2206- 2207-2208-2212, but some record tranches appear to be missing

    https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/r/C12122/clast

However, it says the records are available on The Genealogist, and on Ancestry. You could try one of these pay websites, but it does seem possible this record series may be incomplete and perhaps your record has not survived.

Well, I am simply at a loss! I have tried every conceivable permutation without a hint of success. I am not getting one result. I have tried looking to see if any setting could be hindering my searches but I cannot see what can be blocking any results.

Thank you so much for your patience and help! It is greatly valued.

I have a subscription with Genealogist. I could find nothing on Ancestry. I am glad that you found the same difficulty with Familysearch, that means that it isn't just me. I will search genealogist. Thank you for your kind help. Mike
