System Redesign

Can you tell me what the status is of the FamilySearch system redesign? When can we expect to be able to access restricted records that can normally be accessed from a Family History Center (e.g. many of the vital records for Germany)? Same question for access to premium websites. Prior understanding back in early June 2021 was that it would be about 90 days. Thank you.

That's a question for Ron Tanner. He answers questions on his weekly online chat, saved on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwJDNC5Ehtxqt1o4rs-0AKg

The upgrade was released earlier this month. Family History Center staff will be required to update the Chrome browser to allow viewing. Please ask them to review this knowledge article and make the changes:

Brother Norm, this information about a long-awaited upgrade/repair should have been communicated to those of us (Family History Center workers) who have been apologizing to our patrons since last May.

Are you saying a Chrome browser upgrade will take care of it? Our full-time Elders and Sisters make more use of the Family History computers than patrons (due to limited hours since the pandemic lockdowns), and I am quite sure the Chrome browsers are up-to-date.

official announcement of the full functioning of the Portal, the premium sites, and restricted records. The official release was noon on August 12, 2021Mountain time. This is only available currently on Chrome and Edge browsers. Each browser must have the browser extension installed and pinned to the browser. Before attempting to access the Portal or restricted records make sure the extension is Green and when you click it should say connected and show the name of your center. If you do not get connected or it shows a different center name, then you will not be able to proceed.

    Ian

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, one who has worked in "Family History Centres" of the Church ... ]

    FYI

As far as I was aware, there WAS an E-mail, sent out; BEFORE, the commencement, of the ESSENTIAL Planned (system-wide) Maintenance (and, updates) for the "Family History Centre", 'Portal'.

I believe, that this is a "Copy", of an "E-mail", that was 'sent out', to certain, responsible, "Leaders".

    FHC Portal _ UNAVAILABLE _ for 90 Days _ Due to Planned system-wide Maintenance _ STARTED _ about 1 June 2021.jpg

It would appear, that MANY of the "Leaders" who received that "E-mail", may have NOT passed that information (and/or, a copy of that "E-mail), down the line, to those responsible for the day to day operations of the "Family History Centre"; and, subsequently, the OTHER Staff of "Family History Centre", were all NOT aware of what was going on - as evidenced in the MANY 'Questions' in this Forum.

    Perhaps ...

The fact is, that there MAY already have been, an "E-mail" sent out by the Church, to the MANY various "Leaders", that the the ESSENTIAL Planned (system-wide) Maintenance (and, updates) for the "Family History Centre", 'Portal' has concluded; and, the "Family History Centre", 'Portal' is up and running again.

I have 'seen' a number of post in this Forum (especially, under this 'Category'), that the "Family History Centre", 'Portal' is up and running again; plus, there has been a few problems/issues; and, there are some "Knowledge Articles" on what to do - Question: Have you not 'see' and read through those.

    And, just perhaps ...

The MANY various "Leaders" (of the Stakes/Districts) may NOT have passed the INFORMATION that the "Family History Centre", 'Portal' is up and running again.

    As an aside ...

The INFORMATION that the "Family History Centre", 'Portal' is up and running again, MAY also have been promulgated, in the "E-mail" Client for one's (Local) "Family History Centre' (as, I have not 'looked' of late).

    ie,

    [(Your Local) Family History Centre]@familyhistorymail.org

    Found at: https://familyhistorymail.org/

Question: Has ANYNE at your (Local) "Family History Centre" gone into that "E-mail" Client, of late?

ie. To 'see' if there is any pertinent INFORMATION there regarding the matter.

    Just my thoughts.

    Brett
