Is there instruction on how to send an invite for indexing?
I am wanting to invite our ward to participate in indexing. I see a way to send an invitation in Family Search. I'm having a problem with contact names being in the system. I'm wondering how the contacts are set up. It doesn't appear to be linked to the ward directory.

@Heather Boggess The FamilySearch contact names are personally set up by each individual, and are not a part of the ward directory system. Invitations are done through contact names. I am going to send this conversation over to the All Temple and Family History Consultants group. They will be able to talk you through everything and discuss ways to invite your ward members.

That's an awesome idea @Heather Boggess! I hope you are met with lots of success!
Since invitations are done through FamilySearch/churchofjesuschrist.org user names, and not actual contact names, sending invites via FamilySearch might prove to be tricky, especially since only individuals already using FamilySearch web indexing are likely to see the message.
BUT, I'm sure your Ward or Stake leaders have email, social media contact lists you could utilize to initiate this invitation. Linking FamilySearch user names to the ward directory would be so helpful though...Definitely a improvement suggestion! Thank you!
Also, I found this blog article that might help with drafting your message when you get to that stage, if you like:

Ok. Thank you for responding. I tried to enter several family search user contacts into the invitation but it doesn't like them. Thank you for letting me know the message would just go to the family search message box. The auto message that is prewritten in the invitation looked like a good idea.

Just do a Google doc invite. You can actually conduct a poll at the same time, creating questions and answers to determine how experienced the person is. Their answers are confidential and will appear on a Google excel sheet. We did a little video on our youtube site as to why we want to do indexing and how much it is valued. If you would like the ppt to show, just ask me naswfamilyhistory@gmail.com Here is the link on youtube.com You can use ldstools for the addresses. In our last newsletter, a patron taught us about how to use lds tools to create a list. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAOXSz_2qSY
