Sweden Household Examination Book - 1881-1885
Sven Anders Olofsson - born 10/27/1857 in Nosaby, Sweden - Father was Olof Willsson - Mother was Margaretha Christiansdotter
My GGfather was Samuel Olson (Oleson) - born 10/27/1858 in Nasby, Sweden - Came to America around February of 1883 to the Portland, Maine port per his
Naturalization Petition.
I can find Sven's records up through the 1876-1880 in Kopinge. I need to find the 1881-1885 records in order to confirm this is MY GGfather or not. I want to see if that book shows him immigrating to America around 1883.
Also, I cannot find his passenger list. Nothing for Portland, Maine for 1883. And what States he was in 1883-1886. He lived in Michigan around 1886.
Thank you so much!

Is there anyone that can help me on this? Thanks!

Hello @Patti O.
Would you have a Family Tree person name and ID for your Great Grandfather?
That would help me to look for your GGrandfather.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Can you please post a link to the page in the Kopinge book where you last see him? Otherwise no one will be able to see where to start coming up with ideas of where to find him.

You haven't been back to provide needed information yet, Patti, but I gave it a try anyway and was able to find the information you already have:
Here is his Family Tree record: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/L7ZQ-YQP
Which does have as a source his record in the clerical survey: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSGC-GQSC-T?cc=2790465&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQLP9-TZPZ
In the far right hand column is a notation that he moved out of the parish to Wä. in 1877 and that this is documented on Attest #22. I've never had much luck finding move certificates, but this late the moving in / moving out records are generally pretty good. The hope would be that that record spells out where he moved to, since I have no idea what Wä stands for, and that the moving in records for that parish show where in the parish he located so you do not have to search the entire book if it is not indexed by My Heritage.

Here is the same household examination in the Swedish Archives so now I know I'm in the right set of records to look for his move out: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0060970_00099
He was in Köpinge By. Looking for moving records, there is a notation that the the book that includes 1877 is in the DDSS database: http://www.ddss.nu but when I looked, either I am missing something with the search or the records are not really there. Going back to the actual book, here he is on the right hand page, line 22: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/00137545_00009
It still says that he moved to Wä. So this is an obvious abbreviation that everyone would know. So what is it?

Or is that really the full name? Searching for Wä* in the archive brings up Vä. So I'll take a look there and yes, it was that simple. Here is his moving in record on the left hand page, line 70: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0075300_00041
It states he moved to somewhere that looks like Nöbbelof 9. Going to the clerical survey for Vä, it is divided into two volumes https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0062748_00001 and https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0062749_00001 neither of which appear to have an index. Looking in My Heritage, I don't find that book indexed. So I will leave it to you to scan through the Vä household examinations. It is 494 pages, but just looking at the top left hand corner of each left hand page for a place that looks like Nöb... 9. really won't take all that long. Scanning through the first 50 images (about 1/10 of the total), which were all Wä-1 through Wä - 10, took about two and a half minutes.

Gordon: Thank you. I have the record you have. I am missing the periods of 1881-1883. If this is my Sven Anders Olofsson, then there should be a record where he moved to America around 1883. Otherwise, I can't prove he is my GGFather. I wonder why I can't find any records for that time period?
Thanks!

Hello @Patti O.
I found a Samuel Olson, wife Matilda, son Ellick and brother Alfred in the 1880 United States Federal Census.
Samuel Olson and family in Nebraska USA 1880 Census Found on Ancestry.
I hope this is helpful.

OK, I'll admit it. I'm impatient and too often let my curiosity get the better of me. So I took a look.
The first volume is all for Vä numbers 1 through 59. Then second book carries on from there to finish up through Vä 112/16. Then comes a section for "På Byens Almenning." Then comes Nøbbeløf 1. Going quickly up to the first page for Nøbbeløf 9 shows Sven Olofsson on line 22: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0062749_00084#?c=&m=&s=&cv=83&xywh=651%2C2741%2C3326%2C2387
He has the right birth date, right birth place, and it says he moved from Köpinge in 1877 so it is the same person. It says that on 24 Oct 1878 he moved away. It looks like to Åsum or Åsund. So back to the moving in and out records. I've run into this before and have gotten somewhat irritated with these single young men who never stay in the same place for more than a year.

Moving out: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0075300_00044 right hand page, line 48.
I've checked through the moving in lists for Norra Åsum and Södre Åsum several times now for 1878 and early 1879 but unfortunately cannot find Sven. Either I'm looking in the wrong parish or Sven told the local authorities in Vä that he was moving to Åsum but got sidetracked on the way, never made it there, and ended up moving into a different parish. Or maybe he never got around to moving and is hiding in the Vä book somewhere.

I've been thinking overnight if I have any other suggestions for you and can't come up with any. I hope that someone who does more Swedish research than I do can help you figure out where Sven went to after he left Vä. Being a single male bouncing from parish to parish looking to support himself is exactly the type of person that would end up emigrating. But he could have lived half a dozen or more places between 1878 and 1883.
Sorry I could only get you one step further in tracing him. I hope you can find that final clerical survey page that says: Utflyttet - Amerika.
