The Duchy was stripped from John Albert II Mecklenburg but then it was restored to him in 1631 and the next Duke is Gustav Adolph-his son by his third third wife. So the question is: why didn't it go to Hans George or his issue instead? According to FS, Hans would have still been alive when Gustav got the duchy. So anyone know what gives?

Hello #[Tracy Nies Amadio] ,
I haven't studied Northern European history in depth, but we know the first wife Margaret Elizabeth of Mecklenburg died in 1616. The second wife Elizabeth of Hesse-Kassel died in 1625 childless. John Albert II stated in a testament that Gustav Adolf should succeed him. After John Albert II died in 1636 the third wife Eleonore Marie of Anhalt-Bernburg briefly acted as regent and guardian for her young son who was about 3 years old at the time. Adolf Frederick I deposed her of regency and guardianship 3 days later. I assume Gustav Adolf became Duke of Mecklenburg-Güstrow because it was stated in the testament of his father Duke John Albert II.
Hope this helps,
Geoff

Thanks @Morris Geoffrey Fröberg , That really makes me wonder if there was a quarrel that made him state his younger son should receive the duchy.
