In tracking back Pär Jönsson of Ottarp (household surveys)says he was born 28 Jun 1796 in Ekeby. I'd like you thoughts on the month and day discrepancy? Thank you.

Hello #[Judy Olsen_3] ,
The birth entry in Ekeby (M) shows a boy named Pär was born on 22 July and christened on 24 July, 1796. To your question is this boy the same person that you see in the household records in Ottarp here are some things to consider:
- It is very common to see a day, month, or year evolve in the household records. There were many opportunities for human error when the information from one book was used as a reference to the next volume. Numbers can be misread when they have a similar shape e.g. 4 becomes 9 or 5 becomes 8.
- Ekeby is not far from Ottarp but they are in different chapelries (pastorat). This means the pastor in Ottarp did not have access to the ministerial book to verify a possible mistake. If there was reason to verify a date, it required correspondence to the office of the other pastor.
- I assume the household records have names, places, and references to connect the evidence. Unfortunately the earliest household record in Ekeby (M) begins in 1814. Is Pär living with his parents at Sutarebol in the AI:I book? You may want to look up the family in the mantals tax records to see the mantals entries between his birth and the 1814-1820 book.
- Have you checked the death records for 1796 to about 1801 to see if this Pär died as a child? Infant and small child mortality was high. If this Pär died as a child, it rules out the possibility of being in Ottarp.
- Do you know if the parents of Pär in the birth record stayed in Ekeby (M)? Did Pär move from home but his parents stayed?
- Try to follow either of the hypothetical parents Jöns Larsson or Elna Hansdotter to their death. Perhaps there is an estate inventory that lists all the biological heirs. If yes, maybe it mentions Pär living in Ottarp confirming the relationship.
- On the other hand, if you have an unbroken thread through the household examinations and moving records to maintain identity by first and last name, dates (or age), and references to establish correct migration, then maybe this is this is the right Pär. This is especially true if the household examinations are consistent that he was born in Ekeby (M) in 1796 and this is the only combination of a boy named Pär born to a Jöns in 1795, 1796, and 1797.
Hope this helps,
Geoff

Thanks for the extensive answer. I hadn't thought about checking the mantal records. Will follow through on your suggestions and see what develops. Much appreciated for the thought process this time, Geoff.
