I'm a newb... so bear with me as this may seem naive of me to ask or to assume that they are following historically typical Scandinavian surnames at this point in history, but have you tried researching a father?
Name: Kristian or (Christen)
Place: Fjaras, Halland, Sverige

The household record for Fjärås for 1861-1875 says he was born in Landa Parish, Halland, Sweden 11 March 1838 and that she was born in Landa, Halland, Sweden 9 March 1831. See here: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0010417_00099#?c=&m=&s=&cv=98&xywh=282%2C2707%2C3888%2C3224 . That would be a good place to start.

Well, even though the household record said Landa, they were actually both born in Fjärås on those dates. You can find him here: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0010431_00197#?c=&m=&s=&cv=196&xywh=-111%2C1783%2C2510%2C1570 and her here: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0010431_00149#?c=&m=&s=&cv=148&xywh=1910%2C961%2C2336%2C1409 .

Hey Amber,
Im a noob as well. But, that really is what I'm trying to figure out. I know the Scandinavian surnames can follow the typical patriarchal convention. That being said I haven't turned up anything that links a Kristian (Christen) to a Sven for those dates. I am used to US birth records where it states the mother and father. So I thought that might help.

Hey Norm,
Thank you for all the links. I'm definitely new to genealogy and even more so to reading Gothic Swedish handwriting. But I don't see where it says Kristian or Christen next to Sven August's entry? What do those two columns represent? It's hard to determine since there is no heading for them.

Sven August's father's name is written "Xsten Svensson". The "X" is often used to indicate the letters
"Chri" making his name "Christen".You can see it in the entry for the child on the second line below this-it is a girl named Nora Xristina (Nora Christina). There are several other examples of this on this page. Sven August's mother's name is Johanna (abbreviated Joha) Bengtsd(otter). The family is living on Håltet farm. This is them in the 1834-1841 household records: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0010414_00038#?c=&m=&s=&cv=37&xywh=695%2C1714%2C1409%2C1325 .
The columns meanings are as follows:
1) Child's name
2) Date of birth
3) Date of christening
4) Parents' names
5) Blank column (could be intended for the mother's age which is sometimes written)
6) Names of witness to the christening or godparents.
