Looking to find surname
Augusta Christina. Born 4 Jun 1884 Småland, Sweden. Emigrated to America 1906. Family search wiki says Småland is a province including counties of Kronoberg, Jonkoping, Kalmar. Large area to search thru. I know records are easier to find thru Arkivdigital which I don't have. I realize there could be multiple females by same name born same date. Much appreciated if any can help with finding possible persons. Thank you. Deniese

Finding a place of origin can sometimes be difficult, especially with a common first and middle name. This could easily lead to an emigrant that you find out later is the wrong person. What else do you know? Here are some questions:
- What is her surname in the United States?
- Have you seen her on the 1910, 1920, or 1930 US Federal Censuses? If so, where?
- Is this person in an online tree such as FamilyTree, Ancestry, or MyHeritage? If yes, will you provide a link or ID?
- Does the family know what her maiden name might be?
- What other records have you seen her on in the US?
- A marriage license might mention her father and mother by name.
- A Swedish American Church Record might show a birthplace.
- A obituary might offer clues to her place of origin.

Augusta is listed on 1920,30, 40 censuses but with married name. Marriage rec gives name as Augusta Christopher. I believe her passport application gives name as Augusta Christina. Possibility name is Augusta Christina Christopher but I question that. Have not found death records. FSFT PID GH6R-V7H. Sorry I can't give you more. Thank you for your help.

So Christopher is her surname on the marriage license. It's really unusual in Sweden but there are some people using it in the 1840 - 1947 Household Examination Record database. I wonder if her fathers surname was Kristoffersson and it was recorded as Christopher on the marriage license. Here are a couple ideas:
- Since they lived in the St. Paul-Minneapolis area, I'd suggest you search the Swedish American Historical Newspapers collection on the Minnesota Historical Society website at https://www.mnhs.org/newspapers/swedishamerican. Maybe they are mentioned in one of the local newspapers.
- Find A Grave shows that she died in 1958. I'd suggest you try to get a copy of her death certificate from the Ramsey County Vital Records office. Since she died first and her husband was a native Swede, maybe they put a specific birthplace on the birth certificate (not just Småland).
- Do you know if they were religious? Maybe there is a Swedish American Church Record that lists her place of origin.
Try these things and let us know how it goes.

Not much luck yet. The only Swedish American church records I find in family search are in Kansas. I know I have found them in Minnesota before in ancestry.com but can't find that either now.
