How to find the parents of Karl Johan Johansson
As I stated in my previous post to this website, I am new to research in Finland. Can anyone suggest how I might find the parents of KARL JOHAN JOHANSSON, who was born 4 March 1831 in Pargas, Finland? He was the husband of Edla Gustava Strandblom, who was born 20 September 1830 in Pargas. They were the parents of Johannes Alexander Johansson who was born 4 September 1866 in Abo. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I might extend the pedigree of this family. Regards, Dan Haney

Hi Dan, If you look in the FamilySearch tree you'll see Karl Johan and Edla with children. There are record hints (need to be studied) for both individuals from Church Census and Pre-Confirmation Books. I think you can begin working by looking at these records. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/MHB9-F3P Also, have you seen the FamilySearch wiki for Finland research. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Finland_Genealogy Another great tool is MyHeritage.com. They have the the census and pre-confirmation book records, 1657-1915. https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-10509-22007177/edla-gustava-strandblom-in-finland-church-census-pre-confirmation-books This record shows Karl as the son, (also officer) of Karl Kristian Ranou and his wife Helena Calonius.

Shari, Thank you very much for answering my query from yesterday regarding the family of Edla Gustava Strandblom, born 20 September 1830 in Pargas, Finland. As I stated in my query, I am totally new to research in Finland and am amazed at all the records that are available for the people I am searching. Can you please suggest how I might proceed to find the parents of Karl (Carl) Johan Johansson, born 4 March 1831 in Pargas, who was the husband of Edla Gustava Strandblom named above? I have found many people with that name at MyHeritage, Ancestry, and FamilySearch, but none of them match his birthdate. I need some direction to determine what I am doing wrong. Regards, Dan Haney

Dan, if you click on the "expand post" of mine above you'll see an image from MyHeritage that shows Johannes listed with his parents and siblings. It shows birth dates and places for each person and also that two of the family have died with their death dates.
