How important is it to stick with the spellings of Christian vs Christen in Danish parish records in the early 1700's? The County is Sonderborg.

Hi Kathy, I try to record the name as seen in the record. Christian and Christen are two different names and could be two different people. You might even see Xten for Christen. Individuals are best identified by the unique relationships, time period, location and name of course, but how it is spelled could vary.

I have seen more than one family with sons named Christen and Christian. In those cases, in combination with the details Shari mentioned the spelling is very important.
