Danes who went missing or died at sea, mid to late-18th century
Hi! My question is a little abstract but bear with me. A number of my Danish ancestors were skippers or sea merchants and a couple of whom seem to disappear entirely from the records without any explanation. Were deaths at sea or presumed deaths (e.g. “lost at sea”) recorded anywhere? If not, was there any kind of widow’s fund for the wives of seafarers? Thank you!

Danish Family Search has a database for Danish Seamen and Churches Abroad.
To access it go to danishfamilysearch.com .
Under the "Search" tab, select "Search in Danish Sources".
Click on the "County" bar and scroll to the bottom of the list. You will see "Danske Sømands- og Udlandskirker". Click on that.
Under the "Hundred" bar you can select the general part of the world you want to search.
Under the "Parish" bar you can select a specific parish. It may be best to leave this one unselected.
Search for a person with whatever you know-remember that less information here will give you more results. It is often best to only put in a first name and a birth year, then narrow the results down with more information added to the search parameters.

Thank you for your help! I was hoping to find records from the late 1700s and sadly it looks like the database starts around 1811.
