Odd entry in 1860 census "absent in suitcase traffic in East India".
I was hoping someone could give me a bit more insight into what the circled entry means. I believe it translates to "absent in suitcase traffic in East India". Would he have been traveling there, considering the colonies were all sold or handed over by the 1850s? The census in question is attached to Jorgen Frederik Bonsoe ID GWZ1-DGP.

The middle word means merchant service/sailing--so he was absent (during the census) due to sailing/traveling for mercenary reasons in East India.

@Tanner Blair Tolman I've started looking through the søruller rolls and some of the Lægdsruller rolls for Jorgen Frederik Bonsoe but I'm not having any success in either. Is there an index or appendix for any of these? I've looked in both the Hovedrulle and the Tilgangsrulle Lægdsruller rolls for Frederiksborg but I can't find the parish Asminderod.

There is no index to these records. It was primarily the responsibility of coastal parishes to provide men for the navy but Asminderød is land locked so I am not surprised that it is not in there.
