Clerical census records?
My ancestor, Ole Knudsen (L84C-CDG), was included in Robert A. Bjerke's Manitowoc-Skogen - an amazing volume that gathered information about many Norwegian immigrants to Wisconsin. Part of the reference on page 178 included lists of Ole's residences from 1842-1864. These likely reference church membership lists records - but where do I find these? What is the Norwegian term for these records? [Note that the time periods referenced in the entry are for their time in Norway, not the U.S.]

Hello Jenna, the records you would enjoy seeing are church christenings, marriages, censuses etc. They can be found through various websites. I use this one to see the original records . I chose to share the christening record of Marit KVJG-X3F. (entry #52) If you look through other images you'll

I've never run across and church membership lists in Norway so I'm pretty sure the list of residences was just complied from the parish registers that Shari has pointed you to.
The major Norwegian census records are for 1801 and 1864. Depending on where Ole lived, there might be a local census in the time span you give

Jenna, another favorite tool for a quick start on your Norwegian family are the "bygdebøker" or farm books. They are very interesting and helpful but must always be used as a guide to find the primary sources. I've found that online friends in Norway have access to these books through only Norwegian IP addresses, so I kindly ask them to give a little assistance and they love to share the treasures they find. Thank you - I'll check the "bygdebøker" or farm books. They were referenced in the Bjerke book & I didn't know where the information had come from.
I've done research in Sweden and Finland, too, but get confused moving between similar record types in the different countries..
