What records to search?
Hello, I have an ancestor who came by ship from Sweden, arriving in New York in 3 Nov 1882, with an LDS immigration group. She traveled by train to Utah, and the newspaper says she got off in Ogden, Nov 6 or 8th, 1882. (She is listed as 57 year old.)
The next thing I know about her is that she is in Fountain Green, Sanpete, Utah by 1888, married to Soren Yorgason (a second marriage for each of them).
What records, dear community, do you recommend that I search to look for her in this gap of time?

I'm thinking there might not be a lot of records generated for her between 1882 and 1888. She was not having children. Might be seen in ward records or newspaper articles? Did she live with family? Do you have a marriage record for her to Søren?

I found Soren's probate record, which establishes his correct death date.
I do not have marriage record. I've searched Sanpete county, without success.

For time period after 1882, go to FamilySearch Search tab; Catalog (this is what we used to call the Salt Lake Catalog but it is much bigger than than); enter Sanpete county as a location. There are many records. Under Church Records I see at least one that includeds 1880 forward. More records when you get into the 1900s. These include ward records which generally add people --- as they move in. There should be an index at the front by last name.

You did not say if you were interested in the time before 1882. If you were, the (online) LDS immigration records should say something about her. What you really need is her home parish in Sweden. Note be very generous about spelling of her name. I envision church members were presses into service to make up immigration lists and it seems to me many times they were likely Danes and spelled accordingly.

General comments. Sanpete County was a major collection of Scandinavian converts and you will find lots of Swedes, Norwegians and Danes there. It seem likely there original languages were spoken there in the towns and churches probably into the 1900s. Perhaps she met her husband at church meetings in the county and even married him there?

Have you searched Utah Digital Newspapers? Search for her, her husband and any children, possibly also her stepchildren. Sometimes the newspaper will state that the parents of someone are visiting them, but not state the parents' names. Be aware that she might appear as Mrs. Soren Yorgason. You might get a few tidbits from the Utah State Archives where Soren might appear in the brand books. Definitely search in the ward membership records. It should give their marriage date and the date she moved to San Pete.

I have checked that collection. With all kinds of name variations in the search. But I will revisit that idea with names of children --- Thank you!

I have found her in Sweden, and have traced her from birth through emigration. And I have her later years, after married to Soren, and her death. It is just this gap of getting off the train in Odgen Nov 1882, to being in Fountain Green, Sanpete in 1888 that I don't know anything.
I think I will look into church membership records in Ogden. And maybe marriage records for Ogden, as I have searched extensively in Sanpete.
