I have recently come across numerous entries which in my opinion are very questionable as to their accuracy. For example, one person added two children to a family, one child might have been stillborn, the other died at the age of one year old; both deaths occurred in 1840. The 1840 census lists only the head of household, and then number of people in various age groups living in the home, The other people could be family members, boarders, etc. The "quality score" for these two entries is medium, which is wrong. There are absolutely no historical records to support the entries for 1840, and I am pretty sure the person that made the entries did not personally know the people.

As I went through the records, I came across a place where a person added numerous wives over time (about one every 2-3 years, followed by the death of the wife, and sometimes included a child. This went on until the man died of old age. Not a single record contained a source, no birth record, no death record, no marriage record, no cemetery record, no newspaper article. etc. So, where did all of these names come from? I could try deleting the link for this person to the family, or I could try deleting the record entirely. But what if the person that made the entry had a source they forgot to document? I tried sending one person a polite note questioning the information, but what if the person never reads the message?

In further researching of the recent changes, I found 150 years of new ancestors 1650-1840, without a single source identified. How can any of these entries be trusted as accurate?

With this in mind I request a simple button for users to click on to indicate they are concerned the information might be wrong. If the button is selected, then the person reporting the concern could have a field to say why they are concerned. Selecting the concern button could result in another small, highlighted box within the quality of data frame showing a user is concerned with the accuracy of the data.

I will add one other note. In the 1990s I came across the name of a distant relative that even created his own web page of his family line. Not a single entry included a source. In one palace he stated my great grandfather was a polygamist (first marriage in 1890s). I challenged his assertion stating I could not find a single case of where my great grandfather was married to more than one person at a time. Furthermore, I could not even find a record my great grandfather ever joined the church. The response was basically, "I know my information is accurate." Years later I learned a second cousin, a retired Los Angeles policeman, finding the information questionable had also requested sources. My cousin told me he also received very negative comments about the information being questioned. This person's notes are now being used as "accurate" information.

We already have two options - Discussions and Notes - to add such info to any profile. And, we now have a 2nd type of note, the Alert Note, to make the Note even more obvious.

@David_B_Putman thank you for your feedback. Áine is correct that there is a tool for messages. Here is a link on how to use the Collaborate tab located at the top of each profile page.

In your first paragraph, you reference "The "quality score" for these two entries is medium" could you provide the PID(s) for the profiles you are looking at so that we can see what you are seeing?

    Thank you :)
