US Employment Service records for 1930s
Where might I find the archives of the individual registration cards for the US Employment Service from the 1930s? On my grandfather's 1937 application for a Social Security Account Number he included his registration number with the US Employment Service. I am hoping to locate a copy of his registration record. Thanks for any assistance. Gary

Hi, @GaryNolan GaryNolan There are a few places you can check. First, take a hard look at the 1930, and then the 1940 census record. The 1940 census record will tell you how many weeks your grandfather worked. It IS this GO to census for Depression era, and social security research. I will add a few places for you to check.
In case you haven't already done this, I would check out the National Archives. There is a wealth of information there, that will help you get grasp of what records you might be looking for. When it comes to genealogy, we frequently work with records which were never intended for genealogy.
Links and sites to check out:
Guide to Federal Records: National Archives (NARA) Records of the Social Security Administration.

United States Census 1940 FamilySearch I am including this, because if there is anything listed there about how or who he worked for, it might give you that tidbit you need to find a copy of his registration record.

Please read through what the questions were for those who worked, since the record was changed for the Federal Government to get an idea of what was to come.
Here's another from FamilySearch

There's yet another option on Ancestry.com U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims INDEX, 1936-2006. Its searchable by name, BUT, its an index. When you go to it, check to the right, where you will find other RELATED DATA COLLECTIONS.

Ancestry.com. U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2015.Original data: Social Security Applications and Claims, 1936-2007.
I hope you have an Ancestry account, I would suggest you go to an affiliate library or to a local Family History Center near you to use their free version.
