Finding Gaasti, Viborg, Denmark
I'm just starting into Danish genealogy so I apologize if this should be obvious, but I have seen some of my ancestors listed as being born in Gaasti, Viborg, which doesn't seem to be a parrish or municipality of any kind, ever. They were born in 1620. I'd love to have some help finding where this could be referring to.

I believe this is who you are studying, Christen Nielsen KNW3-56R b. 1620 of Gaasti, Viborg.
Did you notice there are no sources for these individuals? Without a single source it is difficult to feel a measure of confidence in the information. It could all be very accurate but we count on sources to tell us where the information came from and determine if good research has been done. Dropping down a generation on one of the children I still saw no sources. The parish of Lihme is mentioned quite a few times so my very poor guess would be Gaasti could be a village in that area. It is not listed in the FamilySearch wiki in Lihme nor was it listed on another reliable source. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Lihme_Parish,_Viborg,_Denmark_Genealogy
Danish research is marvelous because of great records. Could I suggest if you are just beginning, that you drop down a few generations and get your feet wet with the records and handwriting. The census records are also a treasure. If you need "tools" to help you in your new adventure the FamilySearch wiki for Denmark will be very helpful. Happy hunting.

The locality mentioned by Norm might be what is also known as Gårdsted (Gaardsted) in Lihme, Rødding, Viborg?
Oddly, the locality is not mentioned in TrapDanmark's 3rd edition at all. I wonder why...

Thank you all for the input! It's definitely been a bit worrying to me that there are no sources attached to these individuals either, so I'll do as Shari suggested and begin a little lower, searching for reliable sources to string these individuals together. Perhaps that will help me best identify where "Gaasti" is and if it's a typo for a similarly named village in Lihme as has been suggested.

I can't believe I didn't notice this before, but thank you for linking Trap! I had no idea such a great resource for 1800's Denmark existed.
