I am sure that someone has most likely mentioned this already, I tried to find if they did but couldn't so I'll share this suggestion:

It would be wonderful to have a search guide icon with a key to how to search using the shortcuts such as quotation marks, +, *, etc. Just a little button to the side of the search bar so users can click it and learn how to narrow their search.

Our initial goal is to get the search tool functioning as efficiently as possible. The use of +, -, *, etc. is explained under "Search Tips" on the first results page.
