Norway - Finding birth records - not members of the State Church
I am trying to find birth records for several people but I am coming up empty. It is bringing to ask questions about how the State Church handled births of children that were of a different religion. Are there other places that those births would be recorded?
Karl Torvald Gundersen was born either 15 September 1891 or 15 December 1891. The 1900's Census actually says 1892
I haven't found the 1910 census with him on it but I just found his marriage record. It shows he married Anna Maria Olsen 19 November 1910. He is shown as being born 15 September 1891.
The 1920's census shows he was born 15 September 1891. He is person number 4.
From all of this I feel his birth date is 15 September 1891 but I have been unable to find it. Since he is listed as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I have wondered if the State Church did not record his birth or maybe I am just not looking in the correct place to find his record. Can you please help me sort through the confusion?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has records of members in Norway. They are available at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, but haven't been digitized yet.
The records for Frederikshald branch are on film #123200.
This isn't Karl Torvald's birth record, but it does list his birthdate and his LDS baptism date.
His sister, Laura Constance Gundersen, is listed just above him in the record.
I am attaching an image of the record with him highlighted and one where he is not highlighted.
Still looking to see if there is an actual birth record for him somewhere.

This is pretty cool! Thanks! Have you heard of plans to digitize these records? The person I am working with will be very excited!

As far as digitizing the microfilms (including LDS records), we are told that eventually there won't be any microfilms to look at-the Church is working on digitizing all of the microfilms and they will all be available online. I don't know how long that will take but it is the plan.
After sending the previous image, I continued to look through the LDS records for Fredrikshald (on film #123200) and found this record which may be the closest thing to a birth record you will find:
I also see other children born to Torvald and Marie Gundersen on this record-the same parents are listed on lines 56, (70 - Carl), 71, 73, 77 and 81 but didn't notice that until I had already highlighted Carl Torvald.
The right hand page lists the birth place along with the place and date of the blessing for each child and who performed that blessing.

This does answer this question that the State Church did handle the records differently. Will you please the blessing image again but without the highlight?

Here is the version of the record you requested (without highlighting). Pg 1
I am also attaching another record with the births of Hartman Rudolph (b. 1895), Norman Franklin (b. 1901) and Anna Elizabeth (b. 1903). Pg 2
In case it may be of use to you, the image marked pg. 3 shows 2 children of Carl T. Gundersen and Anna M. Olsen - Lilly Konstanse (b. 1912) and Charles (b. 1913).

This is a gold mine!! Thank you so much!!
I am working on getting the next family history mystery written up. It is very confusing. It is about Karl Torvold's wife Anna Maria. I really hope I can get some answers.

Is there any way to find out when Anna Maria joined the church?

I realized you may need for information. I am looking to know when Anna Maria Olsen, Karl Torvald's wife, joined the church. I don't have any information about that other then the marriage records and census that state that she is Mormon.

I will be at the FamilySearch Library next Tuesday. I will be happy to try to find that information for you then. 😎

That would be wonderful!! I also made another post about her timeline for leaving Sweden for Norway. There is conflicting information there.

Were you able confirm her baptism by finding the record?

I got so busy yesterday that I didn't have time to look for it. I am at the Library again today and will try to find it for you.

Here is the record of Anna Marie Olsen's LDS Baptism (on line 26):
Carl Thorvald's LDS baptism record is here (line #7):

Thank you so much!! This is a very interesting record. Anna Maria does not have a father listed on her birth record and Cecilia is never shown as getting married. I would love to find information on Ole Olsen/Ole Dahlin as there is nothing on him. Do you know where the town is that she listed as being from? It looks like it says Bohnslin. I haven't found anything in Norway by that name.

The patron I am working with was very excited to see these records today. He is excited to share them with his family. He wants you to know how thankful he is!! :)
