Researching Anne Campion and Michael Gibson
Hi,
I have spent the last 47 years trying to find a baptism record of Anne Campion. Her family came from Kilkenny and she married Michael Gibson in 1893. They lived in the Cloneygowan area, in Co. Offaly. Her marriage record shows her father's name is Kiernan (or Kieran). If you are researching this Anne Campion I would love to hear from you.
Best regards,
Carol

A very important - even essential - part of Irish research is religion. That 1893 marriage shows that Michael and Anne were married in the Roman Catholic Chapel.
I always hope for a witness with the same surname - likely to be a close relative. Unfortunately, that marriage has a Gibson and a Flynn for witnesses.
That marriage also shows that Michael is of full age - over 21. Anne, however, is not of full age. That means we should be able to find a birth record and, probably, a baptismal record for her. Civil registration of births in Ireland only began in 1864.
Since you know her family came from Kilkenny, I looked there first. I also kept an eye out for parishes that overlap county borders.
There is an 1873 birth registration for Anastasia Campion, father Kyran, mother Anastasia Scully, in Thomastown, Kilkenny. There is also a baptismal record with the same details. There are also several other children baptized/registered to those parents.
That family looks promising to me. Have you seen this family? Anything to help? Do you know the names of any siblings or cousins? Naming patterns are often strong in Irish families.
