- Thank you for the welcome to the FamilySearch Nordic Countries Genealogy Research Group. I DO NEED HELP!
- I am looking for Translation help. I submitted a request once, but can't seem to locate where I placed the request. Norm Baker did the translation for me that time. He translated the birth record of Berthe Marie, the granddaughter of Erich Andersen and Marthe Oldsdtr (see below) (his response is in my notifications)
- Today I'm looking for translation of the following: Entry for Erich Andersen and Marthe Olsdtr, 6 Apr 1817. FamilySearch - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:687H-ZS1B Church book from Haus parish 1816-1821
- It's their marriage record. I have been trying to find out more information about both Erich Andersen and his wife Marthe Olsdatter. I have looked in a church book from Haus parish and Bergen parish but I cannot find either of their births or deaths there. I did find baptism records for their 9 children and a few other records, but nothing about the parents.
- My big mystery is around one of Erich and Marthe's children; Martine Jensine Erichsdtr. She had an illegitimate child - Berthe Marie in Hadsel (Hassel) parish Nordland......a bit away from Bergen Domkirken parish where she herself was born.
- Then Martine goes to the USA, La Crosse, WI, with her infant daughter and shows up in the La Crosse, WI 1870 census as Jensine Johnson and the daughter is now called Mary. I have no idea why she went to La Crosse, WI. I have tried finding if one of her siblings immigrated to La Crosse and she followed.....no luck so far.
- Berthe Mary Johnson is my great-grandmother......she married Olaf Swennes in La Crosse, WI.

I am not very good at translating yet but based upon the index for the marriage record this appears to be Eric Andersen in the 1801 census at the same residence indicated in the marriage record. His parents and siblings are listed:
Edit to add: This may be Marthe Olsdr and her parents and siblings in 1801 census at her same residence indicated in the marriage record.

In the marriage record it says:
About the groom-
Transcription: Enkemand Erich Andersen Indre Arna, bonde or boede i Bergen Dagløsman? 30 Aar
Translation: Widower Erich Andersen Indre Arna. The next word is either "bonde = farmer" or "boede = living/residing" in Bergin. If it means living/residing in Bergen, then the next word is probably "dagløsmann = day laborer" see "løsarbeider" in the Norwegian wordlist: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Norwegian_Genealogical_Word_List#D ). I guess he could be both a farmer and a day laborer but that would be pretty unusual. Lastly, his age is given, 30 years old.
About the bride-
Transcription: Gaardmands Dtr Marthe Olsdtr Rødland 21 Aar
Translation: Farmer's daughter Marthe Olsd(atte)r Rødland 21 years old.
The rest of the columns say that they were married on 6 April 1817 in the church. They are on page 333 (actually 334) in the Jevnførelses register (index) and the last column reads H(aug) Parish.
