Researching England before 1837
I have hit a brick wall. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Researching:
Parents of Thewlis Daye Abt1834–1919 BIRTH Abt.1834 • England DEATH 25 12 1919 • Marcellus, Onondaga, New York
I know that both Thewlis's parents are English from census records but have no other info in England. Thewlis immigrated to Scotland and married Euphemia Nelson 30 Oct 1863 in Denny, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
. Three of his children, John Alfred Bryden Daye Sr, Elenora Kennedy Daye, Amelia Mary Daye were born in Scotland. I believe he immigrated to Canada about 1871. The last two, Minnie Nelson Daye and Isabella Ferguson Daye were born in Ontario, Canada
He is listed as Presbyterian in Scotland and Free Church while in Canada. Occupations include Designer and wool carder.
I realize that he was born before the England Civic Registration of 1837 . But without a town or county, I am lost
Thank you for any help your might give

@Margaret8112 - do you have the full details of his marriage in Scotland? The marriage happened in Scotland in 1863, so after the start of civil registration in Scotland (1855). The wonderful thing about Scottish Civil Registration is that it gives the names of the parents of the person being registered, so the marriage certificate of Thewlis Daye and Euphemia Neilson in 1863, should give the parents of both parties. In particular, it should give Thewlis' parents.
You will need to spend money to get the full certificate, which is only available on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - so far as I can see, the FamilySearch index record doesn't include the parents of either party.
According to FS FamilyTree Thewlis ( MS2L-KC5 ) had 5 children born in Scotland. I make no judgment about whether that is correct or not but that's basically 6 certificates that you might get - according to https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/our-charges the 6 certificates would cost 36 credits and you can buy either 30 credits for £7.50 or 40 for £10.
If you got the marriage and the 5 birth certs, and the 1871 census (which I forgot to cost) that would put your research on a solid base for knowing which children were born in Scotland and who the parents (of Thewlis and Euphemia) were.
If indeed Thewlis was born in England then, while you don't have a county of birth, his name, together with that of his parents, might be enough to find someone. You might also try just looking for other baptisms to his parents just in case Thewlis got missed.
At any rate, assuming the marriage has been completed correctly, you will at least have the next names back.

One other point - "Thewlis" is such a rare name that he might have been baptised with that as a middle name then dropped the conventional first name in later life. That's quite typical - the middle name tends to commemorate a maternal ancestor's maiden name but gets used as a given name because it's so distinctive - that's one reason why I suggest seeing if there are any other children baptised to couples with the same names as his parents.

Thanks to you I am back on track with places to look.
Your mention of the Thewlis being a rare name got me to doing a google search and found it originated in Yorkshire and was found in Modern Scots and northern English dialect.
