Symbols in the Communion Books
I know that the crosses next to a name mean death. What do the - what I call - "candelabras" next to the name mean? I had thought it meant mourning from when I've seen it in other books. The one I am looking at is the one in the first family group for Ulrika Mattsdr. I do not see anyone here she could be mourning, so it threw my theory off. It does show she got married, but it shows the same for her sister above her.

The priest in a neighboring parish, Karvia, left an explanation of the marks that he used in the communion books. He used a similar symbol to indicate that someone had moved to another place within the parish. I can't be sure that it was used to mean the same thing in JalasJärvi parish, but it does appear the the people who have the symbol next to their names have moved.
