How do I find Naturalization Petition or Certificate from Natural Index Card
Relative - Karl Kennedy
On FamilySearch, I found a Naturalization an Index card. See attached from Ancestry.com.
How do I look for the Naturalization Petition or Certificate. Also, I am concerned that the "Cert. No" below is difficult to decipher.
Thanks, Gary

The seven digit number is the actual number of the citizenship certificate issued to him. Unfortunately, there is no index of these numbers. The new citizen received the original and the court did not keep a copy of the certificates. However, there is hope. It will take some work as the images are NOT indexed for searching. You will need to browse through the records one image at a time. The petitions are contained in bound books. Each volume contains 100 petitions, along with supporting documents. The last page of each record usually includes the certificate number and date. You may need to browse theough several volumes before you find the record for Karl Kennedy. Be aware that the volumes are NOT 100% complete (there are a few volumes missing) and the record for Karl Kennedy may be in one that is missing.
- Click this link https://familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https://familysearch.org/recapi/sord/collection/2212212/waypoints
- Selct "Cook County"
- Scroll down to "Petitions, 1920, v. 90, no. 8801-8900" (this is probably the best place to start)
- Browse through the images.
- Use the "Cook County" link in the upper left of the image viewer to returnto the list to open the next volume.
- Repeat this process until you find the right record.
